Agreed. Murphy, stylistically, is pretty similar to Leon Edwards. Methodical, technical, but gets passive and stuck in a range. It'll be tough to set up a fighter like Volk for a KO, especially without a real grappling threat. Volk would be dictating the exchanges, leading, using his footwork, and besides Topuria, fighters have had little success cutting the cage off against Volk. Murphy is a good fighter, but he just scraped a competitive 48-47 against Josh Emmett, several months ago. Before that, he was almost KO'd and nearly lost to Dan Ige.

Besides Silva, I think Allen poses a tougher challenge to Volk, at least early. The problem with Allen might be his conditioning over 5, but those first 3 rounds would be really tough for Volk. His jab and hand-fighting is one of the few in the division who can out-fight Volk, stifle his lead hand and counter-punch, and especially as a southpaw, as Volk's offense is more limited in open stance match-ups. One of the better movers in the division too, big for the division, athletic, and a consistent kicker.

Volk fought a good fight in the rematch, but I came away thinking Silva-Allen from the week before, had a real shot against him.

Jean gets too emotional when he's losing. And it doesn't help him. I think Volk would get ahead on points and Jean would spazz out. Probably get finished too.

Volk could probably beat everyone but Ilia, but the possibility of him getting knocked the fuck out by the least likely opponent or sequence is always on the table now.

Every fight going forward could end that way at anytime. The guy's a quality operator in there, its a pleasure watching him outclass guys with who are shown to be B+ level at best.

I've seen at least a few people on these forums predicting that Dana will do Volk vs Yair next, because apparently the UFC wanted Lopes to win, so they could do Lopes vs Yair @ Noche UFC later this year.

I think Volks lack of KO power and fading chin make Silva live dog. It’s not so much the KO power which Volk is used to dealing with, but the speed and angles. Theres not a lot of guys in the sport as gifted as Silva, Topuria was one of them and his speed was the key to knocking out Volk.

Like you said, I think Silva is still somewhat raw but he looked much better against Allen who’s a disciplined and consummate professional. Even made Allen make emotional mistakes when Silva took what was given and stopped chasing the HL Reel finish. Someone must’ve sat him down and told him he’s far too talented to go full berserker.

I don’t like that Volk gets dropped in every fight now, I think it’s gonna catch up sooner rather than later.

There’s no telling how this fight would play out. Murphy is a wild card. We really haven’t seen enough of him to say what would happen. Once we see him lose, we will know.

Murphy would get out struck from the outside. It would be an absolutely ugly fight, as is customary from Lerone when somebody doesn’t rush at him. Volk is too smart for that.
