Lame

This plus foot stomps and soccer kicks.

Basically, UFC should have PRIDE rules + elbows. US MMA is so watered down it's fucking crazy!
I love pride, I love stomps and soccer kicks... But we can't have that shit in the UFC dude, the average American can't stomach that. There is no way a reputable channel like Fox or whoever the UFC sells to next would allow that kinda brutality. I know knockouts and blood look bad, but soccer kicks make it look like an actual street fight

The UFC is long overdue to add knees to grounded opponents. It was never more evident than last night in the main event. There's literally no repercussions for failed TD attempts in the UFC. I don't know what needs to happen to get this rule changed, but enough already.. Stop protecting panic wrestlers, it's weak sauce.

There would be consequences if people got good at front headlock chokes. Don't want to do a bad shot on someone with a good darce.

Indeed. It would change the sport completely for the better if knees to grounded opponents, as well as soccer kicks were allowed. Casual sports fans hate the weak take down attempts/fighting from the knees that is so common in modern mma. It is the biggest turnoff to modern mma and is keeping mma from becoming much more successful. Let the fighters fight and the popularity of mma with skyrocket amongst the general populace.

What we know from the now many RIZIN events that have been held in a cage (RIZIN rules literally being PRIDE rules + elbows) is that no one is getting permanently maimed by those rules, and wrestlers do indeed have to pay for the missed TD, and that it dramatically changes dimensions of a fight.

Are there other American based organizations that allow them? The hurdle is the AC's. They add soccer kicks and someone from the NYAC sees it as looking like a full on street fight and not a sport. And they won't sanction it. The UFC won't risk having major venues like MSG lost because some of us want these rule changes. Sucks, but that's reality. Money talks.
Yeah, I have to agree, "kicking someone when they're down" is literally an American phrase to describe unnecessary retribution, dishonorable behavior and bad sportsmanship. I don't think the majority of average Americans would be ok with it, and if your show is on ESPN, that's much of who's going to be tuning in or tuning out.

But-- I do think there is civilized solution to the problem and that is to score failed TDs against the panic wrestler and if you think about it, it makes a lot of sense. A grappler can win a round just by taking their opponent down and not letting them get back up, regardless if damage was inflicted, so they are given points for keeping the fight on the ground where they want it to be, yet a striker is not given the same points for stuffing TDs and keeping the fight standing. Failed TDs should carry the same weight as failed attempts to get back on the feet.

Not going to lie, was 100% hoping for the illegal kicks or knees just for the spiciness. Also... Garry standing on Prates leg was pretty smart, and I can't actually recall offhand seeing anyone else doing that.

And was there any explanation on the time/timing fuck ups last night? The bell went, the guys separated, and there was still about 5 seconds on the clock iirc. Weird shit.

Yeah, and there's that too, we have evidence now ffs. Smh.

They use their appointment ball sack as a place to hide when shit starts going sideways. It's ridiculous and very frustrating to watch that weak ass shit. I know complaining won't do a bit of good, it just pisses you off knowing how much better the product could be.

That's because the majority of Americans - the exception being in the mid-west where there is a strong wrestling culture - have a boxing centric view of what fighting is. To the majority of Americans, fighting is squaring up man to man and throwing hands; takedowns are for pussies.

Also stomps and soccer kicks to heads are quite different than the knees to a grounded opponent. If someone is sprawled out on the ground already with their head open a for a stomp or kick they are already in a position where they can be finished off in a number of other ways.

With the grounded position it's sort of a cheat for fighters to avoid strikes to their own head.

Not just that dude.. most street fights aren’t to the death. If I knock someone out, I assure you I’m not gonna start stomping on their head

Indeed and it makes the fighters look pathetic. And I don't say that to insult them: I am looking at it as a sports fan would look at it. Not going to lie: if I were a female I would be turned the fuck off if my mma fighter boyfriend was on his knees or in the turtle position/fetal position in a fight. You don't see lions on their knees of turtle-ing up when they fight

Well the main danger with un-armed street fights is a man getting knocked out and then whiplash smashing his head on the concrete. That does kill people and cripple others. Novice fighting is so different than professional fighting due to the chaotic nature of it; most novices are glass cannons and just attack like crazy which results in devastating knockouts in street fights. Usually the fights are over girls, alcohol, or some sort of road rage. Usually between males that went through puberty early and have more testosterone than brains and fighting ability.

I realized it’s a bad argument right after I posted that

There’s a lot of shit I wouldn’t do in a streetfight for various reasons

But either way, stomping is the most powerful thing you can do with your body. Easy way to kill someone

Grounded knees - like if they are going for the takedown? That’s logical cause it’s the only strike you can land in that situation

Totally agree. Please bring back knees to the head n the ground, it makes fights so much more violent and entertaining. This is supposed to be Ultimate Fighting at the end of the day, never forget that.

The visual take away of a guy hiding in turtle is pretty cuckish, kinda fitting given who was doing it last night.
