Lame

Indeed and it makes the fighters look pathetic. And I don't say that to insult them: I am looking at it as a sports fan would look at it. Not going to lie: if I were a female I would be turned the fuck off if my mma fighter boyfriend was on his knees or in the turtle position/fetal position in a fight. You don't see lions on their knees of turtle-ing up when they fight
Well hold on though.. if I gotta eat knees on the takedown.. then if I do succeed you can’t stand us up next round. I mean fair is fair

Yeah, I have to agree, "kicking someone when they're down" is literally an American phrase to describe unnecessary retribution, dishonorable behavior and bad sportsmanship. I don't think the majority of average Americans would be ok with it, and if your show is on ESPN, that's much of who's going to be tuning in or tuning out.

But-- I do think there is civilized solution to the problem and that is to score failed TDs against the panic wrestler and if you think about it, it makes a lot of sense. A grappler can win a round just by taking their opponent down and not letting them get back up, regardless if damage was inflicted, so they are given points for keeping the fight on the ground where they want it to be, yet a striker is not given the same points for stuffing TDs and keeping the fight standing. Failed TDs should carry the same weight as failed attempts to get back on the feet.
Kicking someone while they are down is an ideal time to kick them.

They are already close to where your feet are <Y2JSmirk>

Again with the knees on the ground? This crap gets brought up here every week and it's not the fact that the threads keep getting made that's lame, it's the fact that you guys are talking to eachother about this as if there is even 0.1% chance of this ever fucking happening in the UFC.

Especially if you have a bad back, why bend over?

You could have said the same thing about 12-6 elbows for the last two decades too, but here we are.

I have zero expectations of soccer kicks/stomps being allowed, and I've come to peace with that. Knees to a downed opponent's head though, the MMA community should keep pushing this in hopes of it changing one day.

It certainly could happen though. Within the past couple years the bans on both 12-6 strikes and a fighter being considered grounded by keeping only one hand down, have been overturned.

ONE was able to get the state of Colorado to approve their ruleset to allow grounded knees.

This is more realistic to happen one day soon than not

The UFC is owned by a publicly traded company now, they will listen to fans if fights get too boring.

I love pride, I love stomps and soccer kicks... But we can't have that shit in the UFC dude, the average American can't stomach that. There is no way a reputable channel like Fox or whoever the UFC sells to next would allow that kinda brutality. I know knockouts and blood look bad, but soccer kicks make it look like an actual street fight
Bareknuckle boxing is already significantly more brutal than UFC and Americans handle that just fine.

Also pride fc scoring and pride entrances

Fuck it we just need pride
pride >>> ufc

While we at making changes that actually benefit the evolution of the, quotation marks "sport", end quotation marks, we need to make it live judging. And have 5 judges, who never gets to see any of the score cards.

Also have eye pokes communitively. Your first eye poke in the UFC is free (even then refs can still take a point if it was blatant), then any eye poke after that is auto 1 point deduction. It can be 10 years when you commit your 2nd eye poke in the UFC, but it will still be an automatic point deduction.

Americans who are already into the more hardcore sports. I'm talking about a major corporation being willing to host the UFC on their platform, and the unwillingness to do so they would probably have if dudes were getting prison stomped and soccer kicked in the face when they're on the ground. The visual of stomps and kicks to a downed opponent is significantly more brutal than what we've worked so hard to desensitize the population to for the past 20+ years. When I first started watching MMA it was illegal in most states and corporations wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole.

The UFC is long overdue to add knees to grounded opponents. It was never more evident than last night in the main event. There's literally no repercussions for failed TD attempts in the UFC. I don't know what needs to happen to get this rule changed, but enough already.. Stop protecting panic wrestlers, it's weak sauce.
Blocking someones punches with forearms while on your back apparent isn't intelligent defense but fucking being on your knees ass up face down begging for mercy is. Ridiculous rule.

Why does noone realize or remember that the grapplers and wrestlers benefited the most from knees to head on the ground rule..

Imagine Khabib being allowed to knee you in the head from the Dagistanni seatbelt position ...

It got removed because it was too risky not to protect grapplers..

Did y'all forget kevin randleman's headstand knees from north south?

And there is already a price to be paid for missing takedowns its called wasting your energy ...we've seen plenty of grapplers and wrestlers shoot there shots and get gassed only to get thumped for it...

Soccer kick and knees on the ground makes the sport ..less sporting and more of just a fight .. these guys have families and do other things then just compete...getting your head blasted off like a soccer ball is going to leave forever type damage in your brain..

I always have maintained that knees on the ground could also benefit wrestlers

If a wrestler gets in a front headlock position or ninja choke position he could spike knees directly into his opponent’s head.

but but but how are the Dagestanis going to abuse the rule set to leverage their wrestling skills ?
Lol yeah if you think fighting Dagestanis as bad, imagine allowing them to use 4 point attacks when they get on top rofl

Yeah mark Coleman sure cried the fuckin blues about four point attacks

That showsexactly just how j realistic this shit is. Their heads would be cracked open with knees in Japan.
