He was a senior white house adviser during the campaign and the president's son in-law and the potential financial crimes could be linked to the campaign and the core investigation. We just don't know.

i found the Starr investigation absurd, my friend. Mr. Starr's party doesn't seem relevant, unless you're saying party affiliation, by default, corrupts the judicial process.

i think the Mueller investigation is important, necessary, and completely legitimate - i just don't want to wake up tomorrow and read that Mueller has now uncovered breathtaking details about Ivanka buying her way out of a speeding ticket back in 2012.

I'm, not saying he was a Republican, I'm saying he was a Republican operative. The entire point of Whitewater was to bring down Clinton. The point of the Russia probe is to find out who did what during the election. It's a much different investigation.

I don't think we'll see Mueller behaving like Starr at all.
 
There is nothing coming of this. There is no valid information at this point and you've made a thread on it.

...and if there is proven to be linkage between Kushner's financial malfeasance and the thrust of the Russian investigation, i'd consider it pretty relevant.

if there is no linkage between the two, though, then i'm just going to say its unfortunate that this tangential issue which has nothing to do with the premise of the investigation will end up further corroding the perception of the POTUS.

when the Democrats retake the executive office (whenever that may be) i'd like to see this kind of judicial broad based approach to special investigations come to an end - so, just to make sure i'm not a hypocrite, it might as well end now.

I hear ya, but even if there is no connection I still finding it satisfying to see scumbags get locked up (if of course he's guilty of anything, we'll see).

As long as they're investigating actual wrong doing and not just using courts and investigations as political attacks and smear campaigns I'm fine with it.

I don't understand what you're saying here. Can you elaborate?

And I think the dark underbelly of this investigation is what financial crimes -- like money laundering -- Trump might be connected to. I don't think I need to tell you what a major issue it would be if a nation known for applying pressure with Kompromat had proof of criminal activity to leverage against a sitting president.

Trump needs to be cleared if he is clean because there is certainly nothing (including his own actions) suggesting that he is.

its the bolded part that bugs me. that kind of mandate allows for a really, realllllllly broad investigation. potentially endless. i don't want that gun turned on my guy, is all.

i mean, imagine if someone Ken Starr had that kind of power? aye? a democratic POTUS might find himself getting impeached for getting a blowjob.

i'm saying that if Kushner is shown to have engaged in any financial misdoings in the scope of a broadening investigation, and those misdoings have no bearing whatsoever on the Russian investigation, then i think the two things should be decoupled in the public's eye.

but that won't be the case - and i think that sort of thing is unfortunate.

Well no, that's not what I'm saying. If Kush daddy goes down for some type of fraud or something it's worthwhile. If they're investigating him because he used a Russian prostitute or something I'd agree with you.

What is being hinted at is bigger than what you're worried about. We'll see where it goes, but it doesn't sound like nonsense at this point.
