Media Kubrat Pulev broke Frank Mirs neck

mismatches that bad really do have the potential to be dangerous. i mean that's what sanctioning is for. just another example of someone in an important position not doing his or her job.

When Frank Mir tried his hand at the boxing hybrid of Triad combat, he was greeted by 2x HW Champion contender, and 2x European HW Champion Kubrat Pulev.

Pulev broke his neck and KOd him in the 1st round.
Mir said that the doctors told him that if he were to taken one more punch, he could've been paralyzed.

Makes you kinda worry about Ngannous safety, you know?

Appreciate the post @Cariñito

Mir is very much in a fortunate position to have come out with only his existing injuries.
That said, he has had a series of injuries over more than 2 decades.

Ngannou is no Ali but he sure as heck stands a much better chance (slim, but better) than Mir ever did.

That said, why does Mir sound 80 years old? He aged like Chuck Lidell.

That's because Cunningham went light on him.
They hung out before the fight, met each other's families, took pictures, we're complimentary towards each other before and after the fight.
Cunningham wasn't going to go out there and embarrass this guy in front of his family.

Pulev went out there and didn't give a shit.
Almost killed the guy and then after made fun of MMA guys and then at the press conference after Rampage was bumbling some MMA vs Boxing nonsense, Pulev pointed at the empty chair and asked Rampage "Where's your guy then?".

Pulev is a Man's Man.
Beats peoples asses, gropes ring girls and kisses female journalists.
He's a throwback.

Maybe if Pulev is a mans man he should do a mans fight, no?? He's in no position to make fun of mma guys. That's the thing about these fights, it really shows who the real fighters are. MMA guys go over and do boxing, kickboxing, wrestling, BJJ, Combat Sambo, real fighters. Frank went into another sport vs a top HW boxer and went out on his shield. Boxers like to stay in their comfort zone cause they don't have balls to do anything else. If Pulev did, he'd be made into a lady and cry.

All those guys you see in the cage want to be boxers.
All of them.
Nobody wakes up and wants to be Royce Gracie.

Boxing is the premier combat sport. With the famed history and legacy.
Also where the money is. Mir made more there than he ever made in the UFC.

It's like the NFL and Rugby. Rugby guys yelling "If you were tough you'd play Rugby"
Even though those NFL guys are 5xs the athlete and make way more money, they have no incentive to play a sport they give no shits about. NFL players don't give a fuck about Rugby. The same way boxers don't give a fuck about MMA.
It's beneath them.

Most of us are willing to do stupid things for money. In fact, I’ve done a shit ton of stupid things for free. Come to think about it, I think I’m owed!

I'm a billionaire looking to go on a crazy adventure. Would you like to take a deep sea dive with me?

It's a cute little fantasy world you live in there buddy. Pretty stupid and delusional.

MMA fighters want to be mma fighters just like boxers wanna be boxers. The only time you see mma fighter want to go into boxing it's late and beyond their best years cause it's an easy transition and easy on the body. And they just like to compete in general and try different combat sports.

Anyone who comes from grappling arts does not care about boxing, they go into mma. That's how the sport was built. You know have more athletes going into mma than boxing.

The lineal UFC HW champ wanted to be a boxer. So did the biggest MMA star in history.

Conor never wanted to be boxer. If anything, Conor is a prime example of a young fighter choosing MMA over boxing. Keep in mind that Conor joined a boxing gym in his early teens, around the year 2000. MMA at that point was still a very young sport while boxing was at it's peak and highly evolved. There wasn't anyway to watch mma back than aside buying a ppv, it wasn't in the media and not much on the internet. So you can't really expect many young aspiring fighters to want to get into mma at that time. The only nations that had general interest in mma with young fighters was Japan, Russia and Brazil for obvious reasons. But around 16 Conor found mma through a friend and was pulled to the sport, he joined a gym and began training. He himself said that he felt more connected to mma and that was his path.

Francis wanted to be a boxer and that was his passion, yes. But again, keep in mind that Francis was in his teenage years in the mid to late 90s before mma had any type of evolution and mainstream appeal. You can't really expect many young fighters to want to do mma in those years when the sport barely existed. It's very different having aspiring fighters making that choice now or in the later 2000s, 2010s than in the 90s. Francis chose mma cause it had an easier path to get into as a up and coming fighter, he found the boxing world too complicated.

It's ironic that Dan let's that go when Frank is clearly out but he'll jump in when a UFC fighter looks slightly rocked.

First fight I remember seeing was Titovs Frank. So I have to give it to frank.

for sure. mir's hands weren't good enough for mma and he wants to try boxing? i don't know what some of these guys are thinking.
Let Coleman know

That fight never should've been made, even in his prime Mir wasnt much of a boxer and Pulev was 28-2 coming off a title fight against Anthony Joshua.

Mir looked shockingly good when he boxed up Big Nog.

Not before or since.... I guess he saved it all up and spent it all in one outing.

I remember watching the event but somehow don’t remember that ending sequence…my god thankfully Pulev was a good dude there & didn’t punish him even more for eating Brock’s strawberries

Mir's neck was already fusing on its own prior to ever fighting Pulev, so he likely injured it long before he ever boxed (his arm was atrophying leading up to the fight as well), so it's a bit overblown to attribute his neck breaking solely to Pulev.

That was disturbing...even more than Tony being knocked out on his feet.

Maybe not in your local suburb where people go into MMA because the training is easier. But there are more boxers than MMA fighters. By a good margin too.
And it doesn't seem easier on the body. Frank Mir got his neck broken and was one punch away from never walking again.
Tim Hague went into boxing and died in the ring.

It's got to be tough. You're a retired fighter that was able to get out with some brain function and enough money to retire. You made it accross the finishline and you're out. Then your agent calls like "wanna make a quick million bucks?"
