Media Kron reflecting on the fight.

I was very entertained. Would love him on some prelims. Like watching a bjj guy from the 90s time warped in vs modern MMA fighters.
I can see the appeal, and against low level guys he could be fun. But that was the main card of a PPV against a ranked opponent.

Real question guys. What's the deal with his father not training him? Seems like one of the biggest wastes ever.
Many reasons, so get ready:
1. Kron’s older brother died of an overdose/murder and that complicated the relationship. Do you push your only remaining son at the risk of alienating him?

2. Rickson used to corner Kron in his younger days in BJJ tourneys. But I think he stepped back so as not to overshadow him and let him grow on his own.

3. Rickson was always against modern MMA and even modern BJJ. He said it in interviews for years and even stated he wouldn’t encourage his son to go into MMA. He believes it caters to the blood thirst of the crowd, has rules that make it explosive/athletic instead of technical, and teaches poor values to young people (McGregor?).

4. Rickson knows and acknowledges that modern MMA calls for a very different skillset than traditional BJJ. In fact, the BJJ he teaches is different from most others as it has a big self-defense component, has takedowns and is closer to Judo (top control, etc.).

5. I don’t know that Kron ever wanted to be a superstar in MMA. Firstly, his father is kind of a hippie (surfs a lot, very chill guy, positive vibes) so that side of the family doesn’t have those money and fame values. Secondly, just look at Kron…doesn’t seem to have the demeanor of someone who thinks all day about being the next UFC big thing. Rightly or wrongly…

6. Some others…

Full disclosure: this is based on my few and limited interactions with both, and reading interviews, talking to folks, etc. I’m not an expert or a family member.

No one is hating on him because of his last name or even because he's a BJJ centric MMA fighter. It's because he has an early '90s fighting style that only worked against guys who had no submission grappling experience.
