Does anyone on these forums train there and if so what are your thoughts. Please pm me if it would allow you to be more honest, thanks. I didn't find much about the school specifically with the search function, but I did see a lot of people really don't like him... even though they don't know him, so I'd like to hear from someone who trains there, thanks. Cost would be awesome too.

Edit: Another question came to mind. How often does Kron actually teach his classes. Seems like his training schedule would not provide time to teach two classes a day except weekends, thanks.

Nobody... dang. I also see he only has one affiliate. Any reasons why someone like Kron doesn't have a massive affiliate program and more people on a site like Sherdog who train/have trained there?

Give people more than a few hours to answer. I'm sure there are some folks on here that train there.

It sounds like you probably already know that some people don't like Kron just because of who his father is and because some don't like him because they think he's cocky. I think you are right to wait to hear from people that actually have trained with him rather pay attention to people that only know him from a podcast or interview.

Affiliates? I wouldn't use the number of affiliates as criteria to judge anyone's school.

I heard good things about the place from some guys who trained there (friends of my teacher), but if you are looking for modern tournament jiu-jitsu, it's not the best choice. The guys who were there loved it, but we are already in Kron's/Rickson's association so they knew what to expect and "fit the mold", so to speak.

i train there what u wanna know?

yes he teaches classes all the time... his training schedule includes him rolling with students after classes like his higher belts or whoever will make him sweat

When it was still Rickson Gracie JJ it was truly one of the best academies in the world.

Since Kron took over not so much. They don't produce champions, purple belts go to competitions without anyone to corner them, constant brown nosing and sucking up to Kron and mistreatment of students.

I have a friend who trained there and taught the childrens classes for almost 2 years FOR FREE and they still had the audacity to charge him his monthly rate.

If you're looking for a good BJJ academy in so cal go to ATOS or AOJ. Krons place is a good place to learn BJJ if you wont be competing and wont be involved in the cult like brown nosing extravaganza.

Why do people think that academies produce champions?? You make yourself a champion given the resources around u. Look at Keenan, he could train in Alaska and still be a champ. What's up with the hate, ive trained their for a long time and Kron is a respectful guy but still young and maturing. He is a good genuine guy that does care about his student. U dont know anything, just sounds like ur weak. You probably broke or something when u realized people arent gonna hold your hand there but make u work.

People if u wanna know go train there for yourself. Dont listen to this guy because from experience this guy is full of shit. And yes Kron has been mean to me before but in a coaching type way. Guess what I didn't cry, I realized he was talking shit because i was lacking focus at times. Wake up cry baby. He is a martial arts instructor, id hope he would give his students a little shit when they lose focus in class.

Curious who your friend is that teaches kids classes? Not that it is my business but i am curious.

And clearly you are delusional... cult like brown nosing?? lol ok

ive trained there since kron was a brown belt and shane rice was teaching most classes... kron does get that attitude sometimes but dude he lives under all this imaginary hype the community builds for him and i think anyone would feel pressure. I have seen him come off as arrogant with others and myself included. And then I see all the times he puts his heart into making sure we learn jiu jitsu and actually cares if we learn or not. And he is a nice person as well always greeting everyone and looking out for newer people in training. Making sure older students dont get crazy with them. Kron has a good heart and he does care about teaching. It's obvious to people that know him.

People this guy clearly has an agenda spouting his lies xD

I posted that at 99 with no replies... and at the time it seemed a high number but now that I think about it that was rather silly to think that one of the first 99 people to look at my question would have trained there...

You train there so maybe this is a tough question for you to answer objectively, but how would you rate it? You live in SoCal so you could go lots of places I assume, so why Kron's? On a 1-10 what # would you give it?

Cost? As long as he's not more than GA I don't need an answer, but if he's above 200/month please let me know.

Please explain the bolded section... that's troubling for me, but yes, I would like to compete but as silly as this may sound to some I like the philosophy of training bjj for fighting and using competition as practice, no competition bjj practice as the end goal, so that is my interest in Kron's school primarily. I don't think I am a cult follower type, but is the brown nosing really that bad? Anyone else have thoughts on this? Thanks.

You sound like one of those cultist white belts or blue belts who would eat a piece of shit if Kron told you to do it because if you wouldn't you would be considered a "cry baby" I never trained at Krons and never will but have close friends who have been around there since Kron was still a purple belt at Rickson's academy on Wilshire.

Im not going to name drop out of respect to my friend but anyone who has been around the academy since the Rickson days when Henry and Kevin Casey were still training there knows exactly what Im talking about.

Kron is a great BJJ practitioner and one of the best grapplers in the world but he is far from a great instructor, coach, or mentor. Hes more of a brat than anything else. Champions are made by great coaching and mentoring... look ATOS and AOJ guys who are actually winning medals at competitions. Mendes bros or Galvao will come corner a WHITE BELT who is competing unlike you know who.

I know guys from Krons academy who are purple belts and had to compete numerous times with no one to even corner them. The mistreatment of students is not "full of shit" and actual fact. Don't get offended when someone says the truth about the short comings of your academy.

The only reason why this isn't brought up by anyone because they're scared of the outcome. People are scared to speak their mind because you will be called a "cry baby"

Grow up and learn to take criticism.

I like Kron's place because it is exactly what I was looking for when I was researching about bjj schools at the time. I read a lot about Gracie History and I really believe in what Helio says about self defense and what jiu jitsu is designed to do. So it is a no brainer, I love it and give it a 10. If I had a 2nd choice it would be torrance academy. And yeah Im biased but I also feel my answer is geunine. It is top notch. Classes are full of mixes of training partners and random visitors. Always something new. And times when Rickson rolls in I just feel lucky to hear anything he says.

I think around 200/month u can get unlimited classes per month. or 3 classes per week. I also havent looked into that stuff since i signed up in 07.

in my opinion, trained there since 07, this guy is full of shit

^^
How is Kron a "Brat"?
Honestly curious

-Asking someone to teach children's classes for YEARS without compensation and STILL making them pay for their membership.

-Insulting students who don't apply a certain technique properly saying "WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING? THATS FUCKING STUPID! THATS NOT HOW YOU FUCKING DO IT! YOU SUCK!"

-Cult like group of white belts and blue belts who are constantly disrespectful to fellow students and even higher belt guys who Kron is disrespectful to just because they see that he does it.

-Guys going to competitions without anyone of high level to corner them.

The whole situation reminds of you bullies middle school trying to get approval of the top dog bully Kron.

Any grown man with any kind of self respect wont train there.

Is it just me or that student just said that he got abused and mistreated but it was ok because of some stupid reasons?

have u ever played on a sports team, i played football, if u played football ud probably end up in psychiatry office broken and crying xD

Then u can tell me about mental abuse. But it's football and that shit is meant to weed out the weak players. You think football or sports in general is all about physical toughness??

mistreating?? excuse me while i go lmao

That just proves the old saying, "A good competitor doesn't mean he will be a great teacher". If an instructor told me "damn you suck", I may never go back there again.

kron has never said anything like that to any student... but im not trying to white knight on this biased thread so believe what others tell u or go see for yourself... have fun u bunch of gossiping hens xD

I can't speak for what the club was like in earlier years, but I've spent a few weeks there over the last year, and had a great time every time. There was certainly no mistreatment of anyone, the vibe was very surfer-dude/skateboard-bro every time I went.

It is a great place especially if you are interested in jiu-jitsu for self-defence or MMA. All classes include a stand-up element (e.g. takedown defence, or off-balancing for a judo throw or a single leg). Most classes also include a self-defence move (e.g. headlock escape).

Even in a class of 30+ students Kron comes around and checks techniques of visiting white and blue belts.

Kron teaches most of the classes with his black belts James and Eli taking some of the morning ones. James and Eli are very good instructors. If you're doing it wrong, they'll spend the time to make sure you get it right.

From what I recall it isn't cheap, but it is good value. There are probably hundreds of jiu-jitsu schools elsewhere who charge half the price and deliver 10% of the value.

Obviously, there's people who have a personal gripe with Kron specifically, but as someone with no real connection with the place, I'd give the academy 9 out of 10.

i train with Henry Akins. but after i heard Kron's podcast, i thought that he had an interesting philosophy and thought i would go visit his school in culver city.

the first person i met was James (black belt instructor) at the front desk. he was really nice and i felt comfortable being there.

the mat space is very large and the tires suspended under the mats make it extremely comfortable to take falls and also roll on.

i met some of the students there, mostly whites, blues and black, and they were all very nice.

James led the class with a good warmup and then we partnered up and worked from top half guard passes. James is such a good mannered individual and is very detail oriented and i can tell really enjoys teaching.

Kron walked in soon after to see how we were doing and to say hi to his students. I later went up and talked to him and he was just as nice as can be and invited me to come back again.

i had a great positive experience and got in some really fun free rolling in. i remember leaving there on a high note feeling great about the whole experience.

A few things that everyone should know, before you attend there. Kron's gym is located in an industrial area in Culver City. they have parking around the back of the building.

All of the classes are in the Gi. currently he does not have a NOGI program, but in the future that may change.

Kron teaches on tuesdays and fridays.

i have nothing but great things to say about my experience at Kron's school and i highly recommend that everyone who is in the area go and give his school a visit.
