He survived a war with Poirier, who is one of the hardest hitting LW's, and hurt him back as well. Mute argument imo. Until now Max has one of the best Takedown Defenses in the game. There's no reason to doubt it regressing with him going up, because it's all based on technique rather than power.

Max is as big in the cage as the biggest LWs. Even outweighs Doostin, Khabib and Conor. He sure does look skinny, though, needs more muscle tissue. Doostin used to cut a lot as well for FW, but didn't have much muscle, slowly grew into it. Especially his back - it's night and day from now back to his LW debut. Max should do the same. Morph his body properly.

Poirier have fought Alvarez,Conor,Gaethje,Pettis and Hooker and he said the hardest fight was against Max Holloway 2.

After that Poirier fight I don't have much interest in seeing Holloway at 155 unless he fully made the change to the lightweight and bulked up for it.

Love Max, but Islam would absolutely destroy him.

Max packs no KO power in his punches and can't walk down or pressure one of the best grapplers in the sport, the way he's used to doing in his brawls at FW; who's also a naturally much larger man, and is very disciplined in the standup. He lost rounds to Volk (2nd time) in part due to the grappling and clinching, a guy who's 5'6" with nowhere near the grappling skill or physicality of Islam. Even guys he landed hundreds of strikes on didn't get finished, and they were 145ers. I don't see Islam getting tired either. Outside of a lucky knee or head kick Islam would walk through him and it wouldn't be particularly competitive.

It's true, Makhachev is powerful, so if anyone can, Makhachev may be able to take Max down and keep Max down.

But Holloway is seriously proficient and getting back up off his feet now, and quickly. (And that's in the rare instance he even gets taken down now.)

If Makhachev can't keep Holloway down, he's going to get the living ship beat out of him.

In no world could Islam Makhachev hang with Max Holloway in a five-round fistfight.

He hasn’t fought a guy like Khabib or Islam, ever. He’d get taken down. They all do. Which spectacular 155lbs wressler has he fought? Max is very good but he relies too much on blocking punches with his face and that doesn’t end too well against bigger/stronger guys a division above.
