The upcoming reboot of Jean-Claude Van Damme's cult classic Kickboxer is shaping up to be one of the most highly anticipated martial arts films coming in 2015. Right on the heels of the announcement that Van Damme would be joining the film in the role of the wise Muay Thai mentor Xian Chow, news has dropped that the talented martial arts action-man Darren Shahlavi, will also be joining the film.

Shahlavi is, of course, well-known to action fans for his appearances in Bloodmoon opposite Gary Daniels and Chuck Jeffreys, Ip Man 2 opposite Donnie Yen, and in the role of Kano in the web-series Mortal Kombat: Legacy. In addition to the Kickboxer reboot, Darren will also be seen opposite Van Damme in the New Year in the upcoming Pound of Flesh as well.

Kickboxer is definitely a must see for martial arts fans in 2015. Stuntman turned action star Alain Moussi will assume the role of Kurt Sloan in the reboot, while Dave Bautista steps into Tong Po’s shoes, UFC legend Georges St. Pierre will also join the film. T.J. Storm and Matthew Ziff have also joined the cast alongside Van Damme, with acclaimed action director Larnell Stovall serving as fight choreographer.

Just about the only bit of bad news has come in the form of Scott Adkins and Tony Jaa ultimately not appearing in the film after The Hollywood Reporter reported a few months ago that they would be a part of the reboot.

He'll always be the killer in Bloodmoon to me. Watched it when I was a kid when it premiered on HBO with my dad. He scared the shit out of me but it was a bad ass movie and I think of it every time I see a blood moon.

RIP.

He mentions it here!!!

I find it funny that they're getting Bautista to play a Thaiboxer. It was weird enough seeing a Morrcoan guy in Qissi play a Thai, but Bautista... I mean, he's part Filipino, so he's atleast Asian, but I've never seen a Thai that big in my life, let alone fighting in the Stadiums.

Dont care if it's cheesey or what, I'mma watch the shit outta this.

I thought GSP was gonna play Van Damme, what a huge letdown. Not interested anymore, btw Van damme looks scary in that pic, like Freddie Krueger scary.

Batista seems like the most horrible miscast you could make for the role.
