He could've taken down Burns at will if he wanted to... He got rocked in the second round and managed to take Burns down immediately with minimal effort before the bell rang. He just didn't want to fight on the ground with him, he said so himself after the fight. He respected Burns's BJJ too much.

His first take down when they were completely fresh took a lot of effort and he couldn't hold Burns down. He's not taking down Usman or Colby.

Chimaev got dropped by Burns. I don't think we need to discuss Izzy yet.
Usman got dropped by Burns as well, and people said Usman should fight Izzy. And styles make fights.
Styles make fights, I think Burns just really went for it and optimized himself for Zat. This will probably be a wild one off for Zat like Kelvin was to Izzy. Who else at WW has as good of a ground game as Burns and as much speed & power? Luque is close to it, but I think he'd get overwhelmed on the ground.

Colby has superior cardio, but he couldn't take Zat down and he doesn't have enough power to bother him on the feet. Usman has it all, but there's that time bomb of his mounting injuries.

I think Zat beats Izzy when he gets there. Especially at MW with more power and durability. As I feel it would be one big torrent of no ego bullshit take down spamming.

Ironically, I don't think Islam has had a Burns-level test yet. It's not his fault the opposition has been so easy or favorable, but I have no clue how he'd react vs adversity on every front - cardio, striking, power, grappling - which Khamzat would definitely offer him.

Anyway, I enjoyed this fight. Zat is a certified elite contender. Everyone's doubting his GOAT potential when all I really wanted was just quality fresh face at WW rankings.
I think Arman is elite, and finishing Hooker + Green easily in the first round > finishing Li Jingliang in the first round, but yeah we will see.

Interesting theory. Gilbert himself had his hair shaved pretty short. Maybe the shortest in his career

It is a proven MMA fact that having a shaved head increases your MMA attributes. I won't go into detail, but it's known. Just look at the masterclass Alex Volk put on last night. Thug Rose anyone? GSP? Usman? Jon Jones? Fedor? Cormier? I rest my case.

Can someone confirm if this was Khazmat's first fight without a shaved head? I don't see anyone talking about this. I think that is why the fight was much closer than it needed to be. Colby is in for a world of trouble if Khazmat comes at him with the shaved head.
If that's the case, then alopecia Jada Pinkett Smith will be WMMA GOAT with 3 months training

And that's why Gilbert's MMA attributes were increased. Khazmat's attributes decreased. If Khazmat had the shaved head as well, the fight would have been much different.

Not a bad comparison at all. And rest assured that Chimaev will be back even better. It's hilarious how some nooblets around here are trying to make it seem like a small deal that he just beat the #2 welterweight in the world in his 11th fight.

It is appalling. Burns is an amazing fighter. Chimaev is just fucking good already and still evolving, the potential is amazing.

Not gonna comment on Islam, but after seeing Khamzat vs Burns, I'm pretty confident that both Usman and Adesanya would beat Khamzat with relative ease. Colby likely beats him too, maybe with a bit more trouble, but after the first couple of rounds, Khamzat will tire and Colby will coast to a win. Khamzat might beat most other top contenders though.

Even if he's the #2 guy now, and even if he's a legit threat to Usman, he sabotaged his hype.

He's just another contender. Was too hittable, too emotional, too sloppy, got cracked, and wanted no part of Burns' bjj. Imagine Habeeb avoiding takedowns because of Charlie's Olives or Tony's submission threat. And Burns has 1 sub in 6 years. While it was still the smart move, we all thought he'd be ragdolling the WWs ,, hype is long gone imo

Yes they are funny together but we're not here to make friends, I've heard before they met khamzat was drinking only water but now he is drinking energy drinks

Not a single person has said that Khamzat isn't legit or that he's a bad fighter because he didn't dominate Burns. What people are saying is that he's clearly not as good as the hype machine would have you believe. Before the fight, people were acting as though he was gonna walk through Burns and then decimate Usman and even Adesanya. I'm pretty sure most people acknowledge that Khamzat is legit, especially after that fight with Burns, but what they also think, is that although he's a top 5 fighter, he's not going to beat the champ at this stage.

He's a top 5 fighter but has still many holes in his game. He can beat Usman, but he probably gets beat by Usman. His dominating performances we were accustomed to only works against part-time MMA fighters who can't wrestle. Anyone who can stop his wrestling and has decent striking is a problem for him.

He is similar to Khabib, except his grappling isn't as good as Khabib, and he won't benefit by being in a division with few wrestlers like Khabib did. Welterweight has 2 of the best wrestlers in MMA at the top of the division.

I really wish we coulda saw Khabib vs. Chandler.

Burns made him realize his potential through adversity.
