How do you go from fighting top 50 guys, then a fringe top 15/20 to fighting the number 2 ranked fighter?? The UFC is so desperate to find the next Conor or Khabib to milk them that they don't even bother to build up their young talent properly.

Chimaev won but he's going to be thrown to Usman sooner than he should be, they won't let him peak at the right time, with the right development to fight the top dogs. Not everyone is Jon Jones, and even Jon climbed the rankings from top 20, top 15, top 10, top 5...

Chimaev might be a future champion but he's another case of the UFC rushing talent without building and let them evolve at the right pace.

At the end of round two, or did I see wrong?

Tough to give him the benefit of the doubt since he punched the back of Thompson's head multiple times (in a fight Burns had won by that point).

You’re right this was too big of a logical jump imho

it’d be awesome if chimaev finished the tko in the first we’re all excited but fighting decent B- figure and destroying them to fighting a solid A in Gilbert is a huge jump

Might be time for a break from Sherdog.

They both have good chins and they were both tired and lost some pop in their shots

I nearly put money on burns cos I just thought it was far to big considering such a step up for Khamzat., Lucky I didn't. What a fight. Although why Khamzat didn't go back to that jab that knocked him down earlier in the last and just wanted to fking go....madness could have lost the fight. Needs to be tactically wiser.

Imagine...

An unproven fighter vs a proven one.

And there where a lot of you casuals here thinking this.

Izzys distance management is too good wonder if Khamzat would even get a takedown.

And you saw how sloppy and careless khamzat is on the feet.

That tool needs sharpening, he'll be elite one day. He's just very good for now.

Not a robbery. Was a close fight. Both had a strong round each first 2 and Khamzat edged the 3rd. Was awesome fight and they are both clearly on the same level. Think Burns is tougher than most fighters, but Khamzat kept the pressure.

It's insane to pit an unranked opponent against #2 - let alone a guy you want to catapult into stardom.

We should have seen Khamzat fight at least 2 more times before getting to the top 5. He took real damage tonight (and imo lost the fight). For what - $20k?
