Belal is actually a potentially tough stylistic matchup for Khamzat in the grappling department.

He has insanely good takedown defense, some of the best in the divisions history.
If he and Khamzat fought we would definitely learn a ton about Khamzats potential upside.

I don't know why people keep talking about the Jingliang fight, when even Magny was able to take him down and hold him for some time, if I remember correctly. Jingliang is a dangerous fighter, but not on the ground.

Indeed. Li is a guy with a solid chin, heavy hands, and pretty decent striking technique. But his defensive grappling has always been extremely suspect.

Magny arguably scored two 10-8 rounds against him by utterly dominating him in the clinch and on the mat. Jake Matthews also wrestled his way to victory against him, alongside two knockdowns and a tight submission attempt that The Leech had to literally eye-gouge his way out of (the cheating fuck) to avoid going to sleep. Nordine Taleb took him down twice and controlled him for 2.5 minutes. Keita Nakamura choked him the fuck out. The man has 58% TDD.

Don't get me wrong, he's a solid, dangerous fighter -- especially in the standup. But in many regards I think the Khamzat matchup and its hype benefited from timing. The Leech had just slept a veteran and former hot prospect in Ponz in his previous match to move up into the rankings. It made it a lot easier to overshadow his deficiencies. I have little doubt Chimaev can handle guys with solid grappling skills higher up the division, but Li wasn't the well-rounded amazing fighter to showcase it that he's sometimes made out to be.

Ikram Aliskerov is a good fighter who is on the way up, he's a former World Combat Sambo champion and his only loss is to Khamzat. John Phillips is a journey man for sure, but he isn't a can. Jiangling Li is/was a ranked opponent and is a good fighter. Gerald Meerchaert is 3-0 since losing to Khamzat.

I enjoy watching Khamzat fight, and i seriously think he is a future champ, but these twitter wars are embarrassing. This guy really should STFU and beat some high level opponents before talking shit.

That said, I will die from laughter if he gets knocked out or submitted somewhere along the way. Ain't no one on here, or really in the MMA community, going to give him a pass if that happens. Even his fans, like me.

I actually snapped the branch …..Ref called it a no contest …..Even though the branch was ranked much higher then me and I was lucky to fight the branch in the first place ….I spent a year crying for a rematch on social media …..
