Khamzat is a wrestler

khabob nuthuggers cant cope with the fact that hes a d1 wrestler. its pathetic how they trying so
hard to find a replacement for their fighter who quit on them lol :)

Freestyle and NCAA wrestling are separate sports. Freestyle wrestlers like Khabib and Khamzat show excellent ground control unlike Folkstyle wrestlers such as Gaethje.
:)
It's the opposite, freestyle does not emphasize top control. But Gaethje is just an ex-wrestler who doesn't like to wrestle. Khabib and Khamzat are both really good, but Khabib never competed in freestyle afaik

You're easily one of my favorite posters on here. I think Russian rasslers still kinda look down on MMA, which is foolish, IMO. They'll eventually turn around though. MMA is too awesome. No can defend the allure of the ultimate pro combat sport.
crikey , first in line with the conga line of suckholes

Because his bjj is non existent
Wasnt it you that started a whole thread on Khabib finally fighting your ' legendary' D1 wrestler with Gaethje?
Now you're saying Gaethje lost cos he didnt have BJJ? LOL moving the posts much dude?
<YeahOKJen>

dont know what drugs you are on dude, but no one cares except for the peanut who started the thread.

Most Russian MMA fighters from the Caucasus have a wrestling background. I believe it's the national sport in Dagestan and Chechnya. And in freestyle wrestling which is arguably tougher than NCAA wrestling.

That said, the days of wrestlers dominating MMA are over. Everyone cross trains now and TDD has improved. I'm with you that wrestling is a great base for MMA but it's not enough anymore. Khamzat is successful because he has great grappling and striking to go along with his wrestling.
No. Strikers are just matched up with othee strikers. Simple.

Sambo is wrestling plus judo. You learn everything from wrestling but at the same time you have to defend against Judo throws as well (or you can utilize them yourself), so obviously it's superior to wrestling.

Now if you'd ask me if it's better to focus more on wrestling or judo for your MMA game, I'd easily say wrestling as Judo takedowns are harder to pull off in NoGi and you need to get the clinch first. However if you don't train any Judo at all, these Sambo fighters will almost always catch you eventually with a Judo throw.

Another dummy...Sambo is not superior to wrestling and you don't learn everything you learn in wrestling in sambo, dumb ass.

What makes wrestling a great foundation for MMA is that other than being an extremely grueling physical sport, it's an olympic level sport, chances are that if you are a young aspiring wrestler, you are going to compete a lot with other tough young men who are chasing that dream as well.
The depth of competition is much deeper than in any other martial art.

Khamzat is a great wrestler and could have competed internationally if he had a swedish passport. MMA is different however, you don't have to be an international level wrestler in order to outwrestle in international level wrestler in MMA, you just have to be able to smoothly go from striking to wrestling. DC was a much more accomplished wrestler than Jon Jones for example, if they where ever to wrestle in their respective peaks in a straight up wrestling match, DC would beat him, easily. But mix in striking, mix in a cage, make it 25 minutes and it's a totally different story.

Is Khamzat a better wrestler than Kamaru Usman and Colby Covington? From a technical standpoint, I would say yes, he is much better and has a much wider repertoar than both of them, the question is, is he going to be able to apply it in a fight against them? What happens to his wrestling when he get's cracked, can he take a shot? There are a lot of questions yet to be answered.

Is he even Swedish? Guys here keep saying he’s dagestani and khabibs neighbour or protege or something
Well that depends who you ask. A delusional liberal type will say yes, he is Swedish. I guess they believe wherever you live dictates what you are, hell you could be born in a Burger King and the unhinged left will call you a whopper. But no, he is NOT Swedish, he is a Muslim from Dagestan, the furthest thing from Sweden. He moved to Sweden to escape his home country, yet for some reason he still won’t adopt Swedish culture and thus the Abe Lincoln beard and strong Muslim faith (FYI, Sweden is not a Muslim country, despite them allowing the hoard to come in and take over). I had this debate with a colleague once, they moved to England from Nigeria and would say “I’m British”. I mentioned how he was born and raised in Africa but his response was, “im British”. I guess by that logic I could move to China tomorrow and be Chinese...

So us white North Americans are all still considered British and other European nationals and only the natives aka red indians for us cowboys are true Americans? Cool thanks for letting me know. I am now a bastardized European and shouldn’t be allowed to even vote in local elections

Where you're born and raised is what determines it for me. If you're born and raised in China, you're Chinese. And Khamzat isn't from Dagestan by any definition. He's Chechen.

Nothing you said refuted my point that Sambo is wrestling + judo. Americans suck at or don't care about Judo and that's why fighters with a Sambo background always get the takedown eventually. Yes, taking a a fighter with a wrestling base down in No-Gi with Judo trips is tough, but doable when you mix the Judo throws/trips with wrestling and single/double attempts.
