Currently the top contenders at MW have no name recognition to sell ppvs or I guess since we are in the cbs era farm engagement or be viral promoters.
Imavov, Reiner the riddler, borralho, and fluffy are probalby the best contenders currently next in line for a title shot. The riddler has the most name value, but I think it is fair to say at this point in their careers these guys are all 1-3 wins away until they are can be seen as seirous names to main event a ppv.
And let's be honest, each and everyone of you know, that DDP wouldn't have even cared to defend his belt next against these guys if he beat khamzat. He would have moved up to 205 to be a champ champ.
Strickland is suspended, and Israel and Whittaker are the ends of their career.
Khamzat said in his first interview after winning the belt with sonnen that all he cares about is making MOney. Lot's of money. The best option for him to do that would be against Usman.
Usman has the name, did well agaisnt khamzat with no traning camp, and usman has said he only wants to fight for a title next. Usman vs Khamzat will be a lot more interesting then khamzat against any of these guys. They can even do this fight at the White House because Usman is TRump's all time favorite fighter. I think it is fair too. Usman is loved by Dana, and this won't be the first time the UFC lets a legend try to go out with a world title win. Previously they have done this with Vitor, Hendo, and porier. It's not a stretch to say Usman has earned the priviledge.
