I'm excited to see him face top 10 fighters. I know he beat Rda but Rda has changed a lot since then & Khabib wasn't able to mount much offense in that fight. He kind of just got take downs & held position. Other than that fight he has yet to face top 10 comp. I want to see him fight tony, cerrone, Diaz, & alvarez. I definitely think he has the potential to be champ.
I'm not going to judge until I see him face Ferguson. IMO Ferguson is a nightmare matchup for him- more powerful and diverse striking, ridiculous pace and cardio, above average wrestling, opportunistic submission game, and when he gets taken down he has active hips, nasty elbows, and is just generally not an easy guy to hold down.
He would have to come in his old form after the layoff and then avoid injury for a few more fights to have any chance at it. He certainly showed the talent that would lead one to believe he probably could hold the belt. Hell he beat the champ. Everything is always evolving tho so that doesn't translate to he would beat the champ again tomorrow. Let's see him beat Ferguson in a dominating fashion and then talk.
So would I. But to get the haters off his case he needs to I should say.I don´t think that Khabib has to beat Ferguson in a dominating fashion. Looking at Fergusons last fights he might be better than Dos Anjos right now. Fergusons showed an incredible development in his last fights. If Khabib can edge out a close decision against a monster like Ferguson after his layoff I would hold him as a favorite in an eventual title fight against Dos Anjos.
Sounds like a great fight for both of them then.
