Sounds great, surprised anyone sees it as bad coaching. It's voluntary - you want to be coached, so you follow the rules. It could foster cameraderie too I'd guess, going through unusual rules together. Like siblings who relate to each other due to shared upbringing experiences. It also shows that he cares enough, rather than just ignoring those who fuck around. But if he confiscates their phones all the time they can't become 6'8 280lb 6%bf with Phelps-level cardio sherdoggers.

There was another article I read where he talks about knowing that some guys push themselves too hard and need to be told to do less. He seems to get that not every athlete/fighter is the same. Many need someone to reign them in, and that goes for non-training behaviour too. Some of you guys sound like if you had a 10yo who doesn't wanna go to school because it's annoying for them, you'd say "yeh ok son/daughter" and not send them, even though it's bad for them later.

You are right- I wouldn't keep my composure. I would likely kick the guy's ass if I were in his presence and felt that he had harmed my child. Now, would I go on some wild West shoot 'em up where I risked countless other lives and shot the wrong person? Nope. Not a chance.
