Khabib discussing his routine immediately following fight weigh ins

I'm amazed this is even something that needs to be discussed. It should be common knowledge, and sadly just goes to show how woefully undereducated so many professional fighters are regarding not only weight cuts, but physical fitness in general. Eat light after cutting 25 pounds for several weeks. Wow. Rocket science, right there!

On a side note, I was once in jail for a week (many years back) and ate very little (basically a few mini cartons of milk and maybe a slice or two of bread per day) while spending basically the entirety of my days doing sets of crunches and pushups. Girlfriend finally bailed me out and, having picked me up at around 11 at night, and me being utterly starving, we went to....Denny's, where I ordered some kind of Texas burger and a shake.

We went back to her place afterward and began to fool around when the stomach gurgling hit me. Whooooooooo!!! Everything else is virtually identical.

In for selling your ass, m8?

He says top priority is rehydration. He drinks nearly 2 gallons of water on the same day (immediately after) official weigh-in.

Keeps the food on the lighter side - Rice, fish & chicken. Says he stops consuming anything 3 hours out from the fight.

I wonder how common this routine is among the Elite.

We know someone like Black Beast is chowing down BBQed ribs before the fight, as he's dicussed this. lol

I would imagine eating heavy stuff or junk food of any kind could be disastrous, in terms of stomach issues and possible blood sugar crash.

Always think of how much these guys sacrifice to make weight, but I hadn't really thought about even afterwards, what type of nutrition would be optimal for sustained energy in the actual fight.

Cool to hear fighters talk about it imo.

I’m surprised Khabib remembers what his fight routine other than pulling out is.

Plenty of coffee and bran muffins right before stepping into the cage.

Khabib wasn’t CUTTING for weeks. Cutting is dehydration. That’s the 25 lbs of water. Not the same as dieting down which occurs during camp (or not if you’re an idiot like Khabib and most dudes under 30).

Smart dudes are eating fairly normally up to fight week except it’s not burgers and pasta unless again you’re an idiot.

Now putting in a huge load of water and a shit load of food will give you the shits after a water cut. I’m certain that smart fighters are eating something they know they can handle as well the sort of hydration you give to kids dying of diahrea in Africa - water with lots of glucose. Adds easily used brain and muscle fuel plus hydrates without causing the shits. It’s better to drink some Gatorade than pure water on a hangover for the same reason.

I agree fighters are idiots about nutrition and Khabib is a massive idiot.

I love my food too much. I remember making weight for my last HS wrestling tournament. I stepped off the scale, and my coach handed me a Cinnabun. It was a funny little joke, but nothing ever tasted so good.

I can’t quite see if your being sarcastic or not...you think these guys are drinking wine the night before the fight?! Lol

Yea a glass with dinner, that’s first hand experience

Pretty sure fedor used to slam a shot of vodka before fights

Pretty sure Jon jones beat Daniel pussy after a weekend of cocaine

Don’t act so shocked

Mm. Good point. I should have stipulated, be it serious dieting or cutting weight, one obviously doesn't want to gorge immediately afterward.

I remember when Bisping was in Brazil, there was a picture of him eating a burger after the weigh-ins. Pretty horrible.

I went a full week in the hospital with nothing to eat or drink (only had i v fluids)....It’s crazy how good some crap food tastes when you been depraved

You were hospitalized for perversion?

When they empty their stomachs for the weigh-ins and slam all that water then start to introduce food a lot of time you get “the runs” or diarrhea slightly.

Red meats take too long to digest and you want to gain weight back, but not heavy useless weight, like how you feel leaving the buffet.

Most athletes carb load before game day. As for rehydrating some feel small amounts of water/fruit is good to not shock the body. Then start drinking more and more water.

Don’t quote me but the body needs approx 48 hours to be fully rehydrated.

This was my meal after weigh-ins for grappling tournaments. It's almost a routine after starving for a month and no water a day before.

Rehydrate and carb load (better slow carbs and in frequent but relatively small meals), nothing from 2-3 hours before the fight onwards to avoid being in full digestion, also not much fluids in the last 30 minutes to avoid a full bladder (very unpleasant and somewhat dangerous to be hit in the lower abdomen with a full bladder).

Black beast is a giant hw who has insane power. He touches your chin you most likely are getting knocked out or get minor brain damage.

First thing I ate was a bowl of Campbell’s cream of mushroom soup... was the best thing I had ever tasted in my life right then LOL. It’s crazy how good some crap food tastes when you been depraved
yo cream of mushroom is pretty damn good. i like it in casseroles as a lubricant. chicken or pork, potatoes fried onions, and cream of mushroom soup is freakin awesome..

rich franklin talked about earing a whole jar of peanut butter right after weigh ins, with plenty of fluids of course
