Agreed, Bisping's title shot was legendary, being in the right place at the right time and having the balls to step up and fight the champ when given the opportunity, the more I think about all the talk back then it still floats around the similar perspective now, people constantly put too much weight on the number 1 contender fighting the champ, and people fail to understand that this sport is brutal and isn't like other sports that have tournament playoff systems, where even in a tournament format underdogs prevail and face tougher competition against teams that were number 1 all throughout the year. You can't do that in MMA, you can certainly try and it is ideal, but it's an individual sport, when the call comes in you're either ready or you aren't, the way that fights have to be scheduled months in advance all to show up for 1 night, think about how fighters only compete a few times per year we're talking 1-5 times at the max in the sport's highest league. The reason we don't get 1-2 almost always comes down to scheduling conflicts and preparedness, on top of that it has to be a smart business decision for the UFC, mainly because its an individual sport. Yes fighters have much less control and eventually should have more power, but it's the same reason you get guys that instead of fighting sit the entire year just to get that title shot opportunity they are first in line for, which cool they can do that, but some warriors choose to stay active.
lol that doesn't always work out like what happened to Tony ferguson, but it amazes me by how some fans like are demanding that its Champion vs Number 1 challeneger ever single time.. it ain't going to happen like that. The NFL wants the Chiefs vs the Packers in the superbowl this year, doesnt mean they will get it. If the UFC had their way a shit ton of fights they end up scheduling they wouldn't at all but do it to keep the sport a in a legitamate conversation as being a sport and competition, but they still have power to make their own decisions in their control.
with all of this rant being said, I still think Bisping was a great champion for the sport, and most certainly wouldn't be ranked last on my champion list, heck even trying to think of the worst champion is like an oxymoron if you ask me. LIke I tried to think of bad champions but it just seems stupid to do so. even Matt Serra shocked the world Knocking out GSP... I don't know how long the rest of you have been watching MMA, but watching stuff like that happen Live.. is what this damn sport is all about.
