Karate Combat... is basically kickboxing right?

I think originally it was closer to a full-contact karate (with head punching) ruleset, as it was aimed at karate practitioners

Then they changed up the rules a bit to make it more like fast-paced kickboxing. And realised the pit was good for BJJ so they started having grappling as well

So I don't really know why it's still called Karate Combat apart from the gi pants but it seems like a fun time

Karate styles too does have some grappling. Ofc cos point karate is using striking to score ( mainly ) it isn't well known.

While these .....they doesn't mandate to use only one style etc..in this Karate Combat.
IMHO they are lurking with what kind of rules they might get more wievership.

Karate with boxing gloves and punches to the face is pretty much kickboxing style

no it did not lol. actually. 1 min of basic research please.

It did unfortunately sorry to burst your bubble. Kickboxing was imported from Thailand to Japan, and then to America.

Mas Oyama (Kyokushin Karate) sent students to Lumpinee stadium in 1964 to face Thai boxers, , Kenji Kurosaki was the coach. They got their ass wept apart from 1 who used judo techniques to get victory. After that in Japan they started training with the Thai techniques and started Japanese Kickboxing. From then Westerners imported kickboxing to the Western World.

As you speak of research please do yours, you'll be mind blown.

so who invented kickboxing both in japan in america? karatekas lol. It was based on karate, and other elements were introduced, in your case to combat MT. The main influence for the sport of kickboxing came from karate, and the originators of the sport are karatekas. Its undeniable.

Muay Thai already existed, they didn't invent anything, they took Muay Thai and disallowed clinch and elbows. Boxing and kicks were already there. The Japanese tried to invent a new sport out of an existing one. So no it didn't come from Karate, it came from Muay Thai, and Karatekas took it and tried to make it their own version. In the end what matters is that we got Kickboxing. But without Muay Thai there wouldn't be any kickboxing today, just Karate.

Kickboxing still came from karate though. If the Japanese "tried to make it their own", they still DID make it their own.

Muay Thai influenced kickboxing doesn't mean that it doesn't descend from Karate. They're not binary.

I love how since the UFC took over MMA, pretty much every combat sports promotion, no matter where they begin their journey, always evolve into KB/MT organizations. End up signing a bunch of KB/MT guys, and creating a product that usually amounts to "it's like Kickboxing or Muay Thai, except you can't _______" or the it's the same thing but with different scoring or some slightly different presentation (i.e., different gloves, different fighting arena, etc.)

If we had a centralized organization like MMA does, Kickboxing and Muay Thai could actually have a shot in eclipsing it in popularity. That's all just a pipedream though
