Kamaru Usman

He's very good just very non-exciting. He is sure to leave the void that Fitch left and that Maida will leave once he retires.

Usman isn't fetaherfisted though or anything and he's stronger and more athletic than either but also not as technical in his grappling as Maia. IHis striking isn't bad either.

I wanna see him fight because I wanna see who can stop him not because he's an exciting fighter

No excuse for him not to finish that guy. His corner was repeatedly screaming at him in the 3rd to finish.

Now that's "Grinding Grappling". It's like fighting under a car wreck you can't do it, give it up to that guy because that looked like a painful fight...

A ton of potential for sure. I was very impressed. He's still very green so you hope the finishing ability comes in later as technique improves but you never know. I was very impressed with his striking too. Not very good, but he pushed forward whenever the fight was on the feet and seemed very comfortable. He didn't look desperate for take downs.

Maia, a far better and more accomplished grappler than Usman, had Yakovlev on the mat for 3 rounds and failed to finish too. Usman definitely tried. You don't gnp from mount if you're not looking to finish

It was certainly painful to watch.

He is a good wrestler with even better control, but damn. Even as a wrestler I find him so boring, but Elkins is fighting next... so things are not going to get better quickly.

yeah it wasn't LnP, he was doing some good damage on the ground, yakovlev was visibly wincing. and from the mount it looked like it was close to being stopped at one point.

however yakovlev's TDD is just not good enough. he's got a lot of work to do if he wants to stick around.

Someone will stop his wrestling and crack that chin. I believe.

He looks good, but it would be more interesting to see him fight someone who can defend themselves against his wrestling, perhaps someone like Mike Pierce or Ryan Laflare.

Finishing could have been a big difference for his career. Difference between being completely dreaded as a fighter to watch, plus not getting the best fights in his division and at least avoiding being hated.
