Umm, playing an instrument requires talent, singing requires talent, rapping not so much.

I'm talking about lyrics, that's why I mentioned that specifically. Rapping does require talent for the actual lyricists. There will be the Island Boy types for every genre of music. Not everyone is making classic music. Some are just making radio/stream filler music. People used to call them ringtone raps, when everyone would have songs as ringtones. A lot of artists don't even write their own music, and that's for all genres across the board. So you'll have artist that can sing, but can't write/produce music. So basically it's karaoke for them. They'll have song writers make the music and sing a sample that they copy with their voice. Even rappers have ghostwriters since some may have a good voice/flow but not really great writing lyrics. The best lyrists use metaphors in their music, so it's a bit of intelligence for those type of artists. You can't really compare those to the mumble rappers that make club music. That's a completely different genre of music. I'm sure the songs/music you like the most wouldn't be a good song to have at clubs/parties. So that style of music is different and that's mostly focused on the hook/chorus and instrumentals. Making beats is like playing instruments, but just using modern technology instead of using traditional instruments. So skill and talent is still needed for that. Reason why people think Kanye is a musical genius but he doesn't play traditional instruments.
