There should be an age limit on running for POTUS. It's one of the most stressful jobs in the world. While there are outliers who retain high levels of physical and mental stamina well into their golden years, a guy in his late 70's/early 80's leading the Free World is just asking for trouble.

I'll just go with a generalized personal opinion here -- Presidents should be 40 - 68. Old enough to know better, young enough to keep up. Anything younger lacks wisdom -- anything older risks decline.

An age cap would be a fuckin' constitutional and leglal NIGHTMARE, so the smarter move is mandatory cognitive checks, not bans. Since I've clearly left reality and went into some impossible thing that will never happen -- We also need to do drug testing, and have them wear jackets similar to NASCAR drivers.

And we are potentially heading for the same problem with Trump. He's already looking cognitively declined in 2025 compared to 2024. If this decline becomes a clear trend, who is going to remove him from power?

i find that very idea fanciful to the point of being entirely inconceivable. People have gone waaaaaay too long telling him his poo smells like Chanel to change habits mid-stream. I don't think even their own self-interest will overcome the sheer terror of upsetting Trump.

Apart from anything else the whole cult has been built around his infallibility, which is implicit at all times and explicit very often.

Exactly what I'd go with. Age cap for a first term president should be 60. That way even if you win a second term, you're retired by 68. And no, you can't win non-consecutive terms if the second would be past your sell by date.

In fact, I think there should be a hard cutoff of 65-70 years old for all politicians worldwide. Look at all the leaders causing trouble: Putin, Xi, Trump, Netanyahu. All 70+ years old.
