As possibly the only swing voter on the internet, would you humor me by just quickly summarizing?
2016- Liked the idea of a non politician president. Thought Trump would run the country like a business. Thought he was a good successful businessman. Thought that as someone who owned a multipronged business empire, he’d know how to hire the right capable people and delligate especially in areas he was less knowledgeable/experienced in. Also at the time thought conservatives were the more financially responsible party in general.
Also the leaked emails of media specifically and deliberately coordinating with the DNC really turned me off. Media’s job is to be a governments watchdog. And I feared Hillary would get a media machine to sweep anything under the rug she needed as President.
2020- saw 4 years of Trump and realized he wasn’t intelligent, and that he was a micromanager who hired yes-men to important positions rather than get capable ones who happened to be outside of the political circles. Really just seeing how his EOs were “throw buzzwords at the wall to see what sticks” rather than something with a proper plan was enough for me to realize I’d been duped by thinking he was a capable CEO type person to run the country. Wasn’t a big fan of Biden, but he could at least be a return to normal which maybe wasn’t all that bad anymore.
2024- saw a pretty good presidency by Biden (minus him not acting on inflation sooner and hoping it would just go away and being in denial) and also seeing how even if Dems spend more, they’re the more financially responsible party. Republicans cutting business taxes with no plan to offset that lost income or make responsible spending cuts couldn’t be sustained. Some were even talking about “oh no, the only solution is to cut social security funding” which is worrisome if that’s the type of popular expenditures they’re planning to ax to keep business profits humming along.
Also, Trump doesn’t really run on anything. He just runs on being against the Democrats. He says a lot of what he isn’t going to do or what the Dems are doing poorly, but he never says, or showed during his 4 years, what he can do better or differently.
So now while I don’t agree with Harris in areas like immigration or how far we “need” to continue going for social changes, economically her policies fit what I want for the country better. No need to reduce corporate taxes, and the spending programs should help the lower people more even if they’re inneficient or I feel left out of most of them. I’m left out of any business subsidy so I gotta just be more mature when I see a lazy crypto bro wanna be getting food stamps and rent assistance instead of actually working.
My myth of tax corporations responsibly, keep a minimum safety net around without waste, and cut spending to subsidies and foreign countries and defense isn’t a real party so I gotta pick amongst the options I have.
