Vice President Kamala Harris proposed increasing the long-term capital gains tax rate to 28% for wealthy Americans during an economic speech in New Hampshire on Wednesday, breaking with the policy laid out by President Joe Biden in his 2025 budget by suggesting a lower rate.

The current long-term capital gains tax rate – 20%, plus an additional 3.8% tax on higher earners – is paid when an investment is sold, or gains are realized. The Biden budget proposes raising that rate to the top rate he wants to levy on ordinary income – 39.6% – for households with taxable income over $1 million. Harris, the people familiar with the matter say, believes 39.6% is too high.

While Harris still supports taxing the wealthiest individuals and corporations at higher rates – as Biden’s budget also calls for – she believes that a lower capital gains rate would incentivize investors to put more money into startups and small businesses. She has also proposed increasing the corporate tax rate to 28%, up from the current 21% rate set by Trump’s Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017.

Kamala gave additional information about her plans for the economy with a goal to expand small business investment. She was at a 10 year old small business brewing company that is growing rapidly. She talk about shooting today and aiding rapidly growing small business investment including to making tax reporting for small business including working on a simplified 1040Ez that will focus on small business. She also plans on simplifying the process for small business to get low interest loans and other investments. I thought this was a good idea because many small businesses cannot afford to higher accounting firms for tax reporting. I pretty sure this was the most detailed description of their plans and she talked through small business investment will help middle America businesses.

I've been thinking for a while now that, if democrats focused more on greasing the wheels for small businesses, they'd be almost impossible to beat. Good for Kamala. Can't say I agree with everything she's proposed so far, but that's ok, and not unusual for any politician.

I think she over the coming days before the debate will provide more information about the plans. She only been on the trail for a few months already she posted information about small business support, health care and paid leave for health and family. I believe that is a good start but the small business thing is a big deal especially showing up at a business that started a decade ago under Democratic polices and now is growing with over I think 60 employees.

We're had record business formation in the last few years, I wish Biden had and Harris would run on that more. Then again I tend to ignore campaign material so maybe they did.

One thing that does have me a little concerned is that the Trump team is taking advantage of the podcast circuit.

He's been on Logan Paul, Theo Von, and now Lex Friedman.

I don't know why the Harris team isn't scheduling Walz or Harris to go on these podcasts.

Theo Von had Bernie Sanders on the week before Trump. I think Walz would 100% be able to win over him and a lot of his audience.

Plus, it would be a great chance to go on these shows after Trump in order to fact check what he said.
