How does it benefit the country to call an election when one party has just had a leadership convention and has had no time to prepare for an election while its main opposition has been campaigning for 2 years already? They've barely had time to turn on the heat in Carney's office, FFS.
Also, I'm only speaking on this from the point of view of what is reasonable compared with what they were alleging--authoritarian over-reach. And I didn't say to not have an election until October. I said they have no legal obligation to do so (sans a vote of no confidence, of course. As I said above, if no election has been called by the end of April, get back to me and we can talk about why. I don't think Carney will delay an election call beyond about the 21st because he and I seem to both be in agreement with you that a strong mandate from the electorate is important under the current circumstances.
Perhaps I was unclear in the difference (in my mind) between when it would be best for the country to call one and when they're obligated to call one by law.
I feel quite certain Carney will resume parliamentary sittings on schedule when the prorogue is supposed to expire and call an election shortly after, so I'm pushing back on the bullshit idea that Trump/the Liberal party are set to try and hold on to power regardless.
