Didn't werdum even say before the fight that maybe he'd fake a knockdown to set up a submission? I could swear I remember someone saying that at some point. A problem with roids is, its not necessarily a level playing field. The roids an athlete can probably get in Russia are superior to say in Brazil. Thats why they were banned from the Olympics

You don't have to look any certain way to take roids. Want to know why? Because there are many different type of roids. Matter of fact, Fedor's greatest strength was his amazing cardio as well as his powerful grip.

Grips can be enhance by roids that increases strength without really increasing muscle mass (Anavar is a good example).

We are talking about a guy that broke his hands on more than one occasion but still had amazing gripping power to pull off submissions on monster.

Then there is EPO aka blood doping. Fedor was never tested for EPO. But the guy was strong enough to deal with the big boys yet had the cardo and speed of smaller dudes.

To say that Fedor never took PED just because he did not looked the part is extremely naive and just plain dumb.

No. Fedor was very good at maintaining position in one's guard like Nog because he trained in ground and pound sessions which has been very common with Sambo training for a while, especially with the use of a face cage and head gear.

Guys like Big Nog did not trained for these type of situations. Werdum evolved more with his grappling to deal with countering ground and pound attacks,. He himself went over in his training in countering Fedor's ground and pound by catching him with either a triangle or arm bar. Do you really believe for one second that Werdum and his coach never studied the fight between Fedor and Big Nog? Of course he did.

So....My point stands...Fedor's weakness is him fighting a strong BJJ fighter THAT can counter and defend his ground and pound on the guard.

To say that Fedor does not have any weakness is an absolute form of man worshiping. Everyone has a weakness or flaw. Anderson Silva's weakness was him fighting a strong wrestler with good BJJ defense. GSP's weakness was him fighting a good boxer with great takedown defense or a strong wrestler with good boxing.

Really a lot of sambo is about providing that environment, Fedor and Sergei were training with high level boxing coaches who were connected to Sambo and generally I think combat Sambo is more of a meeting point that a very specific style.

Although BJJ is hardly uniform either, Big Nog for example trained at Carlson Gracie's gym in Rio and his focus was not on winning at sport BJJ it was in applicability to real self defence and NHB fighting.

There is clearly a difference and I would argue that style plus indeed Fedor's aggressive Sambo/Judo style is actually more applicable to MMA than more conventional sport position then submission style would. Werdum of course can do both but its been from his back that he's won his important victories with grappling. In Fedor's case of course in MMA he also added GnP into the mix and at his peak I think he was the most advanced GnPer ever in MMA, again the way he attacked Nog in 2003 was totally different from the way he got subbed by Werdum which was much more your standard wrestler GnP and punished just the same way as Nog punished people on tried that on him.
