if Fedor went to UFC in 03 he wouldn’t have dropped the belt until he fought Cain
And here I was thinking you couldn’t compare common opponents because “MMA math doesn’t work.”![]()
That doesn't piss me off at all. Prime Fedor beat prime everyone else in Pride, and then beat in Affliction the two best UFC HW fighters of the era.If the top 3 HW from pride went to UFC in 2003, then Fedor would have been HW champ from 2003 - 2008 at worst.
He beat AA, Tim, Mir, CC, Nog.
Tim, AA, Mir, Randy were the champs through that time. Those are his contemporaries. It didnt change up until Brock and even then IMO Fedor likely TKOs him. But let's assume Brock wins being that Fedor lost that year.
Fedor would have been champ for 5+ yrs with 12 title defenses.
No way Gan, Eilers or Buentello beat him. He beat Monson. That leaves Randy and Gonzaga.
Fedor beat all common opponents with Randy more impressively. All indications is a win for Fedor
Thats leaves Gonzaga... I seriously doubt Gonzaga would win but I guess you never know.
Absolute worst case scenario Fedor still would have an insanely long title run with double digit defenses.
And yes I know some of those actual title fights that happened were rematches but the HW title fight cadence wouldn't be much different.
don't forget that he had to grab the ropes to not get taken down by middleweight Matt Linland.Fedor would have been bodied by Brock. Bigfoot silva plooked fedor using nothing but weight bullying and zero skill. Fedor was a 230lbs cruiser weight is loser weight. Brock woulda come in at 280ish pounds like bigfoot did and impose his will. Beating up Zulu cans does not make fedor the david that slayed Goliath. Goliath musta been a total fucking can just like the Zulus and Hong mans that fedor beat.
Fedor got taken down by middleweight kevin randleman, middleweight chael sonnen, Light heavyweight Coleman, round 1 flattened twice by light heavyweight Bader, reversed and uppercut KOed by middleweight hendo, etc. Brock would have kept him down and got a gnp finish. What was the average size of fedor's pride competition?
Just because pride had a better heavyweight division for a bit, does not mean Pride's heavyweight division wasn't also garage. It was just less garbage than mid 2000s UFC. More people need to admit that all of heavyweight was shit at the time. Some orgs where just a little less shitty than others.
Thats how I see it.if Fedor went to UFC in 03 he wouldn’t have dropped the belt until he fought Cain

A big reason why there were less fat blobs in pride heavyweight division is that a significant portions of the guys that competed there and in openweight would be LHW or MW today.
Brock would very easily take Fedor down, but I wouldn't dismiss the possibily he finds a submission from his back since Brock really wasn't that better from the one dimensional specialist Fedor fought in Pride, just bigger and more athletic.
However, a real heavyweight with good wrestling and modern submission defence (somebody like Blaydes or Stipe) would be a nightmare for Fedor. Those are however very rare due to how shallow the division still is.
The big question during Fedor's reign was how he would've done vs Ubereem, who was another contemporary of his.
