He was past his prime when he arrived at the UFC, where he went 5-5. He had some good fights (Chuck), but no notable wins, unless you count prime Bisping, whom he narrowly defeated. His most memorable wins were the 36-second destruction of Jardine and the plum-knee KO+face plant of Rampage, left to hang in the ropes.

Wandy was a glorified brawler, a MW/LHW version of Matt Brown.

He wasnt just a brawler,even though he brawled alot. He could adapt,as seen in fights with Mark Hunt,and his dedicated leg kicking game against some guys. He could hang back and wait for the right moments to explode,and his chute boxe staple of charging forward,putting pressure,would get guys to cover up,which would leave him open to put ppl in the clinch and devastate with knees. Pretty good defensivley on the ground as well. Calling wandy just a brawler is a disservice. In later years though its all he had left.

I was thinking about this alot latley. Its not easy to quantify.
His ferocity was intact even in his later years,and its plausible he would decline taking three bad knockout losses in three years. Even with a cracked chin,the guy still picked up wins and still killed people.

Yeah, that's kind of the situation with a lot of sports; including like NFL in the 80's- who was truly great, and who was chemically enhanced to be great?

His muay thai was ferocious, but his hands were really bad. Landing only hooks and rushing straight. As soon as he met fighters with standard kickboxing skills he was out of the game.

A Pride Legend, but not a GOAT. Shogun was better than him.

even with this latest rampage fight he still threw a fairly quick combo ending with a high kick....him and rampage looked like flyweights compared to chuck and even tito. he can still fight for sure.

He was #1 LHW for some time in his prime but his style doesn't really hold up in the long run and he was never the same after Hunt/Crocop fights.

Wanderlei had an insane run in Pride but with many runs in Pride there are quite a few opponents of lesser quality in there. He was also insanely active. Was Saku's nightmare.

And before that Sakuraba was known as the Gracie Hunters {or killer}. Until Wand....
