I remember when this came out, first thing I thought of when I saw this thread. I remember legends of Pele beating Anderson up, but when this video came out he was kind of already over the hill. I think Anderson would have destroyed him at this point.

Stephen Quadros used to write a monthly article in Black Belt Magazine. A few of the articles highlighted the IVC (International Vale Tudo Championship).

That's where I first learned about Wanderlei Silva, Milton Bahia, Carlos Barreto, and of course Jose "Pele" Landi-Jons.

The UFC in the States was going through a sort of "dark age" as athletic commissions were calling NHB a "blood sport".

Until Sao Paulo made it illegal, in the IVC, the best of the best fought NHB, from the States, Canada, Japan, Russia, and Brazil.

Ya I think Pele big brothered him during those early years, but eventually Anderson would evolve into the killer he was when he got to the UFC.

I think Pele is a bit pissed cause he probably sees himself as good or better than Anderson, but was unfortunate to have fought during an era when there was no money or exposure in it.

Pele has always been one of my favorite fighters and was the prototype to Chute Boxe fighters. It's so unforuntae that he peaked before mma had gone mainstream but he still managed to pick up some goof wins in Shlemenko, Patino, Hughes and Pat Miltetich (who he absolutely dismantled when it mattered) and arguably beat Dave Menne.
