He was still a pretty high level fighter. Not sure why they got rid of him, really. His 3 fight losing skid includes the #2 guy, the guy who just fought for the belt, and the guy who is about to fight for the belt.
People always act like "release" means it was just the UFC's decision. It's entirely possible his contract ran out, and he asked for too much money and decided to sign elsewhere.
Either way, solid fighter but his days as a top contender are over. 35 is very old for the FLW division and he has a lot of miles on him.
He had a great run, but he's only getting worse and worse while making good money (at this point) in a shallow division.
Sad to see him go but not shocked in the least (especially with his fight style and recent losing streak). At least there is good money to be made in Rizin or ONE at lower weight classes, so should be able to find a home over there.
He was always talented and Im a fan but considering hes never got a title shot in one of the shallowest divisions ever, maybe hes better off in ONE or Bellator. Always seemed he was one fight off a shot.
Every fighter that beat him, other than Moreno at the moment, went on to fight for the title in their very next fight. UFC should have kept him for his role as a title challenger gatekeeper.
