JURASSIC WORLD Nabs Biggest Nonholiday Monday Ever

xawc5d.jpg

Jurassic World continued its rampage at the box office on Monday, biting off $25.6 million to score the biggest nonholiday Monday of all time in North America.

From Universal and Legendary, the $150 million tentpole devoured the previous record set in 2008 by The Dark Knight ($24.5 million). Jurassic World's take was also the third-highest-grossing Monday of all time behind Spider-Man 2 ($27.8), which opened over July Fourth weekend in 2004, and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, which grossed $26.8 million on Memorial Day proper in 2008.

Jurassic World, starring Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard, has now earned a stunning $234.4 million domestically in its first four days and north of $550 million worldwide in less than a week.

The movie, opening 22 years after Steven Spielberg's Jurassic Park hit theaters, scored the biggest global launch off all time over the weekend with $524.1 million, including $208.8 million domestically, which bumped The Avengers ($207.4 million) to No. 2 in terms of history's best weekend start.

Walked out of the theater after the scene where the two kids run from a 50 foot monster, jump off a short waterfall and then lay & relax in the mud giggling, in a restricted part of the park, filled with dangerous dinosaurs. The movie was made for pre-teens.

haha, you idiot.

What kind of tard walks out of a theater? You should've known what you were in for going into it. No one is impressed with your shit hole attempt at pretentiousness.

i've walked out of a few movies. The last one was The Spirit. Got my money back and felt like a better person.

Last movie I walked out on was Black Christmas (2006) once Michelle Trachtenberg died

That's impressive. One of the earliest available indicators for a film's legs is what percent of the total opening week comes from the weekend vs what comes from the week days. The bigger the business during the week the more likely the movie is to sustain it's audience in the coming weeks. So if it's setting records for week day boxoffice it is likely next weekend will be another big one.

The number gets skewed a little now that school is out though. The weekend jump is usually smaller. should still get the record for fastest to 300 and 400 mil.

I just saw this film and I have to give it a 10/10. The two main reasons for this are

1) I was really stoned coming into the film so I got much more immersed and I was very forgiving of the cliches. In fact I welcomed them and I thoroughly enjoyed them.

2) More importantly I grew up with Jurassic Park and I have been waiting for this sequel for basically 10 years(saw JP3 in theaters as a kid) so to finally get it was awesome. Lots of nods to the original but as noted in the OP much more action adventure which I enjoyed since I felt like it could never pull off the sense of wonder the first film did. Simply put the way the younger brother reacted to attending the park was how I reacted to this film.

That said I will get more specific. I'm a fan of Bryce Dallas Howard and I think she's pretty good at playing the girl you're supposed to hate as evidenced by 50/50 and The Help. This was no exception though her character got more likeable as the film went on and I really enjoyed her character arc. I thought her acting as Claire Earing was pretty great in comparison to most of the acting in the franchise, especially her "scared shitless" act, and to top it off I thought she looked amazing, definitely my favorite leading lady in a JP film and my favorite human character in this film. Chris Pratt was okay and though his dynamic with BDH was a little cliche I thought these two pulled off well enough with just enough subversion of the tropes. The kids were at least better than the kids from the previous film IMO, especially when it came for them to show off their knowledge in starting the car which was at least more believable than what other past JP kids have done(fucking gymnastics). Irfan Khan as Simon Masrani was a fun replacement for John Hammond.

The real star of course was Indominus Rex. Without trying to give awy too much I will say this creature is among the best I've seen in any monster movie. Very terrifying, perhaps more so than another single dinosaur in the franchise. I thought I-rex definitely upped the "wow factor" as Clare would say. The film also delivers with other never before seen dinosaurs and other-saurs. I think this movie came out at the perfect time and I like that it didn't feel so Spielberg like JP and instead really delivered on the action and carnage. I can't remember the last time I had so much fun at the theater. Standard popcorn, summer movie flick for most but a JP fan pleaser and a well above average monster movie for you creature feature fans. One of the most fun experiences at the theater for me personally.

This movie was just like JPIII in the sense that the island literally wasn't scary at all. There was no sense of dread, suspense, or anything. It was bland and lifeless.

This is something the original movie captures perfectly, and to a degree, Lost World too.

I remember watching Jurassic Park 3D in theaters when it was re-released, and my bunghole was puckered a big chunk of the time. It was suspensful as fuck. But JW......nothing.

Watched the older movies recently, the special effects do look a bit outdated. I'm willing to bet the majority of you have not watched those movies in a long time.

I don't even know how it is debatle. This movie is the 2nd best easily.

People complaining about the dialogue and acting. Good god the last two were so much cheesier. Do people really not remember?

I think The Lost World was better than Jurassic World. and could have been much better if they just cut out every scene where the black girl was(but that can be said of all 4 movies, they would have been better with no kids).

9 (classic)-JP
7.5 (good)-TLW
7 (pretty good)-JW
5 (meh)-JP3

The black girl ruined that movie and it made it the worst one without question. Sure if you cut her out it becomes 10x better but you can't so it's not.

Worse than JP3 in your opinion?

Yep easily. That girl just killed so many moments in that movie for me it's not even funny. The whole raptor scene was really cool and I liked it but when she started doing gymnastics and all that crap I just couldn't deal with it. Her constant whining and just overall immaturity was so annoying.

In JP3 they had the kid but he wasn't nearly that annoying either were the kids in the first one. In fact the kid in #3 is the least annoying one of all the kids.

the screaming lady from the third one was way worse. not even close.
