He was a keynote speaker at the DNC in 2012. That’s a position that the Dem leadership gives to the future leaders of the party. The problem was he was from Texas and couldn’t win a state wide election so Obama picked him out of Texas to lead HUD and I’m sure he was going to move into a larger role in a Clinton administration.
