Joining team 2 points doesn't have to be difficult. (AND if you do this as they pull guard you'll get the takedown for free

Don't stick your ass out when youre sweeping. Takes a lot of power away. Your hips should be driving forward.

can you explain how you can possibly drive forward with your upper body at the same time as sweeping backwards with your leg without having a slight bend at the hips?

I just looked at videos of jimmy pedro, steve pullen and beyondgrappling and they all do it like I am

if you reeeeeeaaally want the judo brigade to hop in here and tell you all the stuff you could do better I'd be happy to rally the troops.

well, that video just proves my point...neil's hips aren't forward and his ass is out when he sweeps. (it's clear as day at 2:50)

good video everyones a expert lol dont listen to the bs just keep sharing the good info my friend

It looks awkward in your demo because you are much taller than uke. Just a fact of life.

If we want to nitpick there is the timing of weight shift and limited forward projection.

It's hilarious and sort of sad how any judo tech demonstration will end up with people either arguing the designation of the technique or, as in this thread, that it isn't properly executed. Especially if it comes from a guy with a BJJ belt. Judo elitism is real. You will just have to get used to it.

It is a good demonstration, and how you do it has served me well over the years.

listen, I appreciate you making demos, but there's a ton of room for improvement here.

I'm not saying you should be embarrassed, but you miss fundamental concepts and struggle with execution. it's not invisible.

It's almost like a Judo guy posting clips of Ne Waza that to you would look like a yellow belt...welp....Blue Belt teaching the technique.

I'm no Ne Waza guy, but I've watched enough of your and others clips to see openings at the Dojo to advance on high level guys....I'd never make an instructional about it tho....

Pro tip: rotate him around to your left as he takes that recovery step you slide his foot out from under him as one variation. The static version with your sleeve grip if you pin it to his body you are driving his weight onto the foot you're trying to "sweep". Keep the sleeve grip out and open. Second, your stance needs to be wider, you sap all your power going through Uke with your feet close together and unless you're using as a Henka Waza reverse Uke will have a better base than you. Think of it as you're generating forward force with your hips and sneaking that foot behind Uke's that he trips over as he's projected backwards...You ever stumble over something in the dark? A lot of this is kinda like that. You're positioning yourself so Uke's momentum "trips" on your foot behind his ankle....forward over your hip....backwards over the back of your thigh...ect. You're not muscling Uke you're generating momentum and then tripping him up....Shit got all esoteric on ya...Sry....

Kinda weird, but YouTube suggested a kouchi video.

At 3:30 he demo's shifting the weight front then back on the heels. Amongst other reasons, it's hard to sweep when the weight is already planted because a short reap just doesn't have the power to do so. The Adams demo seems to get around that by kicking outwards the foot and pushing uke so he flies back. In this case it's more like a footsweep.

The follow on video, which is left vs right, is more like your demo. I think it's because left vs right you have a better sweep arc, and you can twist uke more.

You are aware that feets close together in transition is what you will see from some real greats in judo right? Are they too not worthy of showing technique?

This is my problem with judo culture in general. Too many “experts”.

dude, the technique in the video is mediocre. you don't have to be an expert to see that.

if the pretty cupcake girl posts a pie-baking video, and the people who bake pies every day point out that the filling is too runny and she burnt the crust, they're not wrong.

it doesn't take away from her cupcakes, and it doesn't mean she can't bake, it just means that her pie recipe sucks.

I already have a video on the rotation variation :) as for not hanging off the elbow, well as you'll see in my video and the one I posted above it makes it too easy to step out of the sweep,so that's why I don't open the elbow
