ju8do or sambo

Same thing.

You have traditional judo in japan. Strict tradional form.

In Russia, Italy, France, US, Canada, Poland, and the rest you have judo with 'wrestling' and we still call it judo. Or does that make us samboka?

I like the rules in Sambo better where you don't win with a nice ippon throw. That makes for more groundwork. Like when training at the club.

Either will be good.

Go to the one with the best club/coach, at the best price, nearest to you.

Depends on your location. As a rule of thumb you would want a dojo with a lot of competitors. Visit a judo and a sambo dojo near your place, and decide on the basis of the quantity and quality of the players. There is no point taking sambo if there are only 2 classes a week, attended only by old men.

Your not likely to find a Sambo place near you so Judo, plus you will leanr tons of effective take downs and throws. Classic judo does have leg locks btw, it's just not a part of Olympic Judo

If you have a Sambo school near you join Sambo for sure. Sambo and BJJ are a deadly combo.

SAmbo man those russians are fucking nuts they no how to bring the pain
But judo is cool as shit

Sambo takedowns & leglocks + BJJs groundwork = one hell of a grappler.

Not that Judo is a bad choice either mind you - I just think Sambo is the way to go.

There are not alot of places to train Sambo and often you will find people with Sambo experience practicing at judo schools, we have 3 at ours. They have a little bit different approach but it is not that noticible so would not worry about either judo or Sambo, just find a good school.

if you can find sombo then more power to you.
i live in london/kent in the uk and there aint no where near me that does sombo.

whichever academy is better/more competitive, train there. imo, it will be much easier to find a good judo club, its more popular.

I agree with everyone else that either Sambo or Judo would nicely complement your BJJ skills.

But... how's this for an idea to improve your BJJ game? Why not spend your extra time training BJJ to improve your BJJ game (focusing on takedowns and top control)?
