Josh Thompson’s life changed after he fought Tony Ferguson

I thought that he looked much less agile for a few fights before that. That beating sapped whatever he had left.

Never would've picked him to beat Khabib though.
I agree. Though Ferguson between the Thomson and RDA fights vs. Khabib at the same time (Tibau fight) would be his best shot. Best case, I see Khabib winning a decision with a few fun scrambles and relatively solid performance by Tony. By the time Tony fought Gaethje, it wouldn't have been close.

Weirdly enough, I don't think there's a rule for doctors evaluating blood loss during fights. They look for concussion symptoms, broken bones, vision and cuts where the blood runs into the eyes obscuring vision, but I can't recall in the many thousand MMA matches I've watched where a doctor has stopped the fight purely on blood loss alone.

You can't lose enough blood in an MMA fight to warrant that. skin cuts don't produce that much blood. they aren't like arterial bleeds.

Blood loss is weird. 100ml of blood looks like a gallon on canvas or on a floor / on a wall / on Joe Stevenson but is a very small amount of the 5, 6, etc. liters of blood every person has in their body. take 100ml of paint and pour it on a t-shirt and jeans. it'll look overwhelming.

If they're woozy, the blood loss may have an impact, but I'd wager the weight cut and strenuous output is more impactful.

Koscheck, BJ Penn, Jake Ellenberger, Rory and others all seemed to go through the same thing. It's like they fight scared and have no will to win afterwards.
I guess their confidence in riskier moves which set them apart diminishes highly where they are second guessing themselves and not willing to go all out. It's like they would need to take a few steps back and fight much lower competition to get that flow back but losing there just spirals them down even further.

Wow, and Thompson had been through many wars in his career prior to the Ferguson loss. I can even remember the fight being hard to watch watching it live. Thompson got absolutely dismantled and bashed every second of that fight and had multiple, nasty cuts where he painted the canvas red.

It's up there with Koscheck/Lytle as one of the most savage fights to watch just in terms of the many pints of blood spilled by one opponent. I knew these guys MUST have been feeling feint as they actually looked pale from the massive blood loss.

Blood loss can't exactly be measured in real time, but in regards to the Kos/Lytle fight, he literally stained multiple square feet of the canvas in blood, and even though he only absorbed some average GnP, he was woozy as hell when back on his feet. It was the first card my then GF watched (after me convincing her it was actually pretty safe as I was doing MMA at the time), and she was horrified.

Sacrifices to the JBGs come at a price apparently.
Blood, or any other liquid, really, makes a hell of a mess, and it doesn't take much. You can lose a pint without being compromised much (blood donations), and I would be shocked if any fighter ever lost even close to a pint in a fight, no matter how messy things get.

Tony took a lot of souls. Live by the sword and die by the sword… Joostin took his soul in the most brutal way too. It will happen if you stay in the game long enough.

Seriously, where the fuck are the cliffs? Ip ban
Some brave and good souls did offer some cliffs, and must be thanked and showered with gratitude. But,had the TS included the CLIFFS in the first post, you, good lad, would know exactly where they were.

.... Really?

What if i didn't come in to this thread to watch a video but only to know how Thompsons life changed? Or what if i simply don't have the audio atm to watch a video? Or what if it's late where im from and reading is the only thing helping me sleep? What if i don't like Thompsons voice but reading the cliffs instantly makes me a fan? Or what if i don't want to waste my time on a shitty video? The matter of cliffs is far deeper than the meatheady "Just watch the video or don't bro"

And yes. As @HHJ pointed out, the biggest reason of all, it's sherdog tradition. A tradition so grand that any thread viewing a video longer than 2 minutes without any sort of cliffs constitutes as pure lazyness. Unless it's a promo video of course.

What you didn't know about cliffs is that people are more inclined to watch the video after reading a bit about it.
just come back to watch vid when your mom is not around

Josh's honesty should be applauded. This is the dark side of MMA that fighters rarely confess to.

And it's sadly ironic how history repeated itself witb Tony when he was the same age as Josh.

I just recently started listening to this podcast and really enjoy it. I like it when fighters retire and can let that tough guy facade down a little and admit to times they were hurt or felt scared.
