Josh Thompson’s life changed after he fought Tony Ferguson

I think BJ Penn and Joe Stevenson fits into this thread as well.

I always was a fan of Thomson. Remember two days before my 11th birthday he finished Nate Diaz.

When fighters talk about getting their bell rung easier as time goes along this is something every older guy on this forum can attest to. Around the age of 42 I noticed that if I took a blow to the head of any decent magnitude it was far easier to mess with my equilibrium. Now at 50 it is much worse. I can’t imagine what it must be like for fighters after decades of sparring. As always there are exceptions but time and reps catches everyone.

.... Really?
And yes. As @HHJ pointed out, the biggest reason of all, it's sherdog tradition. A tradition so grand that any thread viewing a video longer than 2 minutes without any sort of cliffs constitutes as pure lazyness. Unless it's a promo video of course.
This is what it's really about... cookie-cutter mentality

We were cageside in the front row for that fight.

I was absolutely blown away how easy Tony ran through Josh Thompson... doing somersaults into sub attempts and throwing spinning shit.. July 2015 Tony was an animal.
ive always thought the josh thompson fight was the best Tony ever looked in the cage. I know dos anjos was the bigger win for tony's resume, but josh was a legit vet who was good for a scrap with anyone and tony ran through him like it was some scripted movie type shit.

It's called owning someone's soul. Examples: - Silva owns Franklin's soul.
- Cain owns Dos Santos' soul
- Gaethje owns Tony's soul
- Lesnar may own Mir's soul
- Robbie owns Rory's soul. (Not a one sided fight though).

Some guys just get beat so bad they're never the same sadly.
Franklin was still a good fighter and managed to beat Wand twice afterwards--although Wand was past his days as well. Some guys are mildly affected while some never win a fight again.

Koscheck, BJ Penn, Jake Ellenberger, Rory and others all seemed to go through the same thing. It's like they fight scared and have no will to win afterwards.

Yep, I was saying Ferguson was years past his prime before he fought Gaethje.

On the bright side, Josh sounds very articulate and doesn't appear to have any CTE effects at this point.

I thought that he looked much less agile for a few fights before that. That beating sapped whatever he had left.

Never would've picked him to beat Khabib though.
