Now that Josh Emmett is ranked ahead of everyone except the elite of the elite at 145, what kind of match up should he get. Does the ufc give him a step back and hopes he makes weight next time or have him in another big fight. He's 32 and will have challenges making weight. Maybe a fight with Cub Swanson(assuming he resigns) makes sense. Thoughts?

the biggest problem here is that somebody looked at the UFC rankings and put a second of thought into them.

The higher you fly the thinner the air, it’s not going to get any easier for JE. I agree with TS, Swanson makes the most sense for both fighters.

He hasn't made 145 as a UFC fighter, right?

Don't really like how he leaped so many fighters in rankings in a fight where he missed weight.

I'm guessing that UFC must like him and because he is 32, UFC is going to give him a fast track ride to a title shot.

Nope, but that should put him right about #6 or #7 on the UFC pound-for-pound rankings.
UFC rankings will prolly have him top 3 depending on how high they are tbh

This was his second fight in the UFC at featherweight. He weighed in at 145 on the dot for his first, and that was less than 2 months ago.

The viciousness of the knockout against a perennial top 5 guy outweigh the fact that he missed weight by 2.5 pounds. That is why he shot up in the rankings.

He can welcome KZ or Mendes back or fight Stephens/DHC winner or loser depending how that fight goes

Hence why I asked if he had made weight prior, I thought he had only fought at 155 before

I'd put him against the winner of jury/glenn. He had a great win against lamas, but he can't skip the line like that. Let's see if he deserves to be #6

<DisgustingHHH>

suggesting that rankings should dictate matchmaking...

Just become a fan of the sport of MMA instead, yeah?

I never said the rankings should count for much, but they do. I've been a fan of the sport for a few years now, nice try though

Btw the Elkins vs Mj winner makes sense. The winner would be very close to a title shot.

Again, he trains at TAM with Elkins. Ortega makes most sense IMO

Ortega is probably getting a title shot if he just sits and waits. Yes Emmett has shot up the rankings but he's a step back for Ortega.

Elkins is going to lose to MJ. So Emmett vs MJ
