I saw one study where it said after 24 hours of fasting, males increased their natural human growth hormones by 20x and for women it was up to 16x. Also when you have food in your belly, a lot of your body's energy gets reallocated to digesting the food down, which can take many hours to do so. So when you fast, your body has more energy to focus on other areas that needs attention.

And there are some fasting forums where people claim to fast for 30 days or such and still able to go out and jog/exercise on the reg. Granted these people worked up to these levels, but shows how fasting is going to leave you into a dried up pulp. But you gotta do it right.

Once your body completely switches to ketogenesis after a few days, you get really clear thinking, even much more than normally. This may explain why some religions talk about divine stuff when fasting.

I wrote complex essays for work when I was deep into days 5 to 10, and I was a machine. However I never had enough energy to jog or workout, I had to take it easy.

Electrolytes are also a must when you go beyond 3 days
 
I guess if he can comfortably train his body to fast for 3 days without water, that probably makes the weight cut for a fight easier and less stress on his body.

Strategically using the rules being a form of cheating is spicy take. Also a pretty bad one.

I would be OK with anti-cutting rules (same day weigh ins and/or hydration testing) but legal is legal. Hell, in MMA, sometimes illegal is legal.

This is the type of stuff that needs to be taught in school, but then again, the US school system do not want healthy kids, so this would never fly in a public school, not any time soon. Wish more people knew about these health benefits. I don't fast but I do the one meal a day (for years now, though there are some cheating from time to time). Once you get used to it, it really isn't hard to go long periods without eating, much longer than most people would think they could.
 
I don't think a 3 day fast is that extreme, you don't really even feel hungry after the first day is over with. Great for getting the weight down.

I only did light workouts during the fast, wouldn't recommend doing anything heavy especially if you are going longer than three days.

Weight cuts should be capped at a designated percentage. Example 10%
You can only rehydrate to that amount.
A fighter that exceeds this percentage the next day would be fined.

Massive weight cutting needs to be addressed.
