So we all know Jose Also as a great striker, however I think his bjj credentials are often overlooked. He is well respected in the bjj community and has competed with some of the best in the game.

Taking this into account how do you feel his bjj will play a part in his upcoming fight with Conor?

Without the lay off:
Aldo by first round Shaoilin
specialty arm triangle.

With the lay off:
Aldo by fourth round Shaolin
specialty arm triangle.

Everyone's BJJ at Nova Uniao
is on point.

People have been saying Jose Aldo's BJJ is overlooked, since about 2008.

At some point, maybe it's not being overlooked, maybe we all know it.

Yeah Dede ain't no chump, homie was legit himself.

If he ends up on top of McGregor he gets the round and maybe the fight.

Aldo mostly uses his BJJ to avoid subs and get the fight back standing. His TDD is also some of the best in the game.

I don't think we've ever seen him use it offensively in MMA have we? Maybe in the Hominick fight?

Yes for the more experienced mma fan, however for the new UFC fan not so much. Hadn't seen a thread on it leading up to this fight yet.

At some point, maybe fuck McSageRousey fanaticism.

I'd rather talk about Vitor Shaolin Ribeiro
turning out JiuJitsu specialists who just so happen
to know how to knock people out with flying knees
as well as defend a double.

To answer your question: personally I think Aldo is more skilled on the ground, but that doesn't mean Conor can't do well there. Conor is a dedicated brownbelt who has shown hints of finesse: fluid passing on Holloway & Siver, slick escapes from bottom & a very specific escape from the classic TAM guillotine attempt by Chad. That said, Jose is a beast from a killer jiujitsu camp. He tied Faber up in knots in seconds when they hit the mat. Granted, that was a long time ago. Bottom line: Jose is better on the mat but anything can happen.

Jose doesn't use it cuz he doesn't need it. Sometimes he will switch it up to break up their striking rhythm. Or, say when he broke his foot on KZ.
But he mounted Florian and Mendes. He also crucifixed faber. And I feel like he mounted a few other people that i seem to be forgetting

I remember Florian being highly touted for his bjj.

He's got very good top control. He's more position than submission. The way he easily passes to mount is a thing of beauty and he's done it to multiple elite fighters.

If he gets McGregor to the mat, it's over.

he's mounted every single fighter in the wec and ufc that he's had topposition on, he litteraly jumped through lamas guard to mount and took his back like he was a white belt. how is that not using your bjj offensively? aldo favors position over submission, which is a very intelligent approach considering you are more likely to end a fight using ground and pound than you are by opening yourself up to counters or scrambles which you very easily can do by going for subs.

he also put faber in a crucifix that had faber completly helpless, and he swept florian with little effort.
