News Jose Aldo Officially RETIRES - "Don't Have It In Me Anymore"

Had him winning the fight actually.
And if he had taken more time for the 2 low blows, he wouldn't have gassed in the 3rd as usual - and won by a wide margin.
Uh, the 2nd “low blow” was not even low.

He still has it, he had an adrenaline dump after going for the finish. He looked incredible tonight and the decision could have gone either way. I think he may reconsider his decision to retire when he watches the fight back and has licked his wounds.
No leg kicks anymore though. And his killer instinct is gone. He hangs back too much now and gets these razor close decisions.

He wasn’t a scrub but it he was definitely mid tier.

He was on a five fight win streak with four finishes going into that Aldo fight. It was a young division and he fought Aldo at the apex of his powers. Despite Aldo being sick to the extent that they removed him from the champions gathering pre-event and he collapsed afterward, Aldo fucked him up so much that he had a head growing out of his head.

I hate to say it, but that's when I lost all respect for Aldo. He became just another fighter to me after that. Losing is one thing but 13 fucking seconds or whatever the hell it was?!?! And Conor NEVER finished any other opponent THAT quickly. Even the Siver fight lasted about a minute or so. I never "hated" Aldo, I just could never get past that and take him seriously again.

I realize what I just said will be considered blasphemy and heresy by at least 90% of Sherdog, but I've never cared about offending anyone's feelings here before so why start now? <lol> Besides, the real ones will get over it.

Guy didn't lose for ten years. This post is fucking hilarious, lol.

I was pretty pleased with how he pounced on Zahabi last night, Aldo recognized he hurt him and went for the finish right away. That little sequence almost gave me some Aldo-Mendes vibes, it was nice to see.

I thought Aldo won. I'm biased. The dude is an all timer. He shouldn't be fighting. Yet, he could have reasonably be considered the winner of his last two fights. Aldo was the guy at 145 during the apex of the sport for me. He'll always be a legend.

aldos the goat

here's fightmatrix's all time goat rankings:

only people above aldo are gsp and the cheater jones.

I love Aldo, I'll tell you a little story about why I bothered to watch the small weightclasses........... if you remember back in those days in UFC it was only LW and upwards, there was nothing under 155, and then WEC was invented and I watched a few events and was not impressed, sure they are fast but every single fight on the card went to a decision, there were zero finishes when I watched it, I thought yeah this is gonna get boring real quick...........

....... then I saw a guy named Jose Aldo and I was amazed, he was so violent and would brutally beat guys, his leg kicks were incredible and his hand speed, and it started to make me like WEC more, and then I kept watching. But Aldo was the one who made me watch the small weightclasses, because initially the fights were deja vu to decision, until I saw Aldo and I was a huge fan from that day forward of him and WEC. What a legend!!! always love Aldo.

I left the playbyplay thread last night after the decision, I really thought Aldo won 2-1, I just skipped the co-main and main event and watched it in the morning instead. I was gutted for Aldo.

that was sick and I thought it should have won Aldo the fight. But his body language was bad because he gassed unfortunately. I know for a fact his cardio in his prime was very good he used to go 5 rounds regularly. Like that war with Mendez.

I can see why he still wanted to fight though. He did stuff every takedown of the current champion and gave him a decent fight even out of his prime.

I’d honestly have to rewatch the fight in a sober state of mind to score it properly. I felt like Aldo winning, Zahabi winning, and a draw were all plausible, it was a really close fight.

And the next ten years AC (After Conor) he went 7-9. Do you find *that* amusing too?

He was 12 years and 26 fights deep. I find it rational to expect a drop off. GSP had multiple lower leg injuries like Aldo and retired around the same tenure. Jose just stuck around.
