I dont think there should be a distinction on who should be getting paid more because one is viewed more dangerous than the other. When they were interviewing all these former MMA guys who went into bare knuckle boxing, they still considered MMA more dangerous because you can get knocked out but also have limbs broken etc.

Boxing is harder on the brain but MMA is harder on the whole body. You cant get head kicked or flying kneed in boxing or punched on the ground after your already unconcious.

Boxers get paid more because it's been around longer and is more established in the public conciousness. On top of that, as much as it pains me to say, theres people out there, who CALL THEMSELVES MEN, that actually think that MMA is too brutal, and the optics alone of smashing dudes on the ground in a cage is like repellent to them.

MMA has come a long way and im happy for it. I think all fightsports participants should deserve as much as they can get.

That's not how boxing works. People care about the best fighters fighting. The titles don't mean nearly as much.

Tom Aspinall isn't just an arbitrary interim champion, he's also seen as the top or second best HW in the UFC. So, yes, there is a lot of reason to complain.

He fought 3x, short notice each time and once was headlining UFC 300, and only made $3M more than Jones who fought 1x? That's ridiculous.

Fighters who get big wins attempt to/successfully renegotiate their contracts all the time.

They DO have leverage if they are exciting and have fanbases.

So they do have leverage, but they can't infer that fighters like Jon Jones earn far more than $6 million?

Come on guys... we are at the point where the "it makes sense for the UFC to obfuscate fighter pay at the top level" argument now involves "but fighters have a lot of leverage so can fight hard for higher pay", while also accepting that everybody knows "UFC main eventers make far more than is disclosed".

I think you're all pretty much in the same camp as me - it makes no sense whatsoever for the UFC to play a silly game where they pretend fighters are paid shit.

Let's look at boxing, then, an industry that cannot tell you in loud enough terms how much the top guys are paid - do the co-main boxers on those same cards earn tens of millions given the main eventer earn hundreds of millions?

It's dumb. And when people try to defend this silly, outdated policy on a point-by-point basis, it just falls apart. Fighters do know what Jon Jones and main event stars get, at least roughly, and if they really do have any leverage, they can use that whether it's disclosed or not. To pretend this is a smart strategy that befuddles fighters and their managers - who in many cases also manage the top earners - is just insulting to our collective intelligence.

There is no coherent defence for this practice. We're just used to the UFC operating like this so we have to assume it's worthwhile? Nah. It's outdated and obsolete.

And he wont get that much ever again, boxers get good money when they fight the big names, Ngannou and Ferreira conned PFL with that fight, i would LOVE to know how many PPV´s they did.

Most outlets reported they did 10k buys generating $500k and paid Ferreira $2m and Ngannous $8m.
