Jones snitching vs real snitching parallel

First you compare it to how snitching works in the real world, with actual cops and the real legal system. Then later you point out that usada aren’t actually cops, and have no legal authority. And then you say it doesn’t make sense.

Maybe that’s because you can’t compare apples to oranges.

It depends on how you define power. WADA can easily overturn USADA's verdicts. The idea is that WADA shouldn't have to. WADA, in turn, can be challenged and the case being sent to the CAS. These things are not laws, but agreements. The likes of FIFA and IOC could chose to ignore the CAS. They won't, because it would be a public relations nightmare.

The UFC to a public anti-doping stance for business reasons. It would be a bad business decision for them to pull out of the program. The UFC needs USADA.
 
Another fighter wouldn't make much sense, a doctor or a coach or a major supplier would.

On his suppliers or on several low profil fighters. It can be worth it to go easy on Jones if he helps catch, let's randomly say, twenty fighters. The most interesting thing will be how he's going to deal (pun intended) with the fact nobody is going to sell him shit (PED or recreational drugs) now that he's officially a USADA informant.

The way I've interpreted it is that Jones has given USADA information that will assist their testing in the future.
The speculation that there are designer substances that will beat current testing measures has been around since the BALCO scandal. If they are accurate and Jones provided information that would increase USADA's effectiveness in testing, he wouldn't necessarily need to provide a name; he could just give them a product, they could backwards engineer it and figure out how to test for it.

The obvious flaw in this logic is that Jones actually failed a test, but history has repeatedly shown that Jones is not intelligent. I think it's likely that he was provided a substance and told "if you use it like this, you won't get caught." Jones being Jones, he didn't follow directions and he got caught.

Since steroids are not illegal outside of competition...

In the United States, the FDA has classified all anabolic steroids as Schedule III controlled substance. They are illegal to possess, to use, or to distribute, unless one has a specific prescription.

I'd deny that.

The sport is bigger than any single fighter. Jon has shown he makes repeated foolish decisions, I'd say his shelf-life is less than two years left at peak. So, at best, 3 good fights with him, but probably less. Those three fights come at the expense of any sense of legitimacy or integrity that the UFC, the USADA, [and to the casual fan/mainstream, MMA itself, by proxy] may have. The laughable inconsistency of decisions to let fighters like McGregor and Jones fight simply because they are draws harms the sport as a whole.

Even from a money situation, it makes shit business sense--but I'd expect nothing less from Dana, who couldn't promote thermal underwear to Alaskans. Combined, I'd be amazed if Jones and Conor have 6 good fights left at their peak...but the UFC is going to take short term gains--6 fights are going to net how much profit? To get those short term gains, they're going to future credibility and sales. And they're building a business model that literally TELLS up-and-coming future stars that it's entirely fine for them to be spoiled little fuckups, and any sense of self-discipline is optional.

It's great if you are a casual fan and you just want to see your best boy fight.

But if you care about the sport long term, it's nothing less than pathetic.

Jones was only going down to Jackson's for his camps, so he was doing his drugs elsewhere i imagine.

His brothers are in the NFL that place is rampant with PED's. It could be that angle.

Be really funny if Jones snitched on a bunch of NFL players suppliers.

This. If the institution is truly interested in eradicating the criminal activity, then they are looking for the biggest criminals, not the the most famous ones. That would be suppliers and distributors over abusers.

Also, the person at the top can be the best person to bring down the entire enterprise. Again, if you're actually interested in stopping the activity over landing the big fish. The only reason TS has the impression that he does about snitches "snitching up" is that law enforcement generally isn't interested in stopping the activity, just landing the fish.

So yeah Testosterone is illegal in some ways.

I see. But what can USADA do about that ?

Is that their job to begin with ?

What I'm basically asking is can an ordinary organization like them decide to start busting people for dealing steroids ? Who gives them that authority ?

I'd assume they can't cause no matter how much I think someone is in the wrong I can't just start playing Batman.
