Jones possible path to victory

With all due respect, the entire premise of the thread already accounts for Jon needing to have other ways to win aside from physical attributes.

If you have any commentary regarding strategy, tactics or film study which fall within the thread topic feel free to share them, but simply stating "Jon doesn't have bigger muscles" doesn't bring anything worthwhile to the discussion.
You might be right I don’t have the answers that you’re looking for, sorry brother

If Gane fails to secure the finish Jones automatically wins.
Point fighting and relying on favorable judging is a viable path to victory which Jon has had success with before.

Gane is not the biggest one shot KO artist and generally is happy to point fight if his opponents don't press him so I do consider this a possible outcome.

I would add that he would probably use a bit of "round stealing" to attempt to sway judges, should Jon go this route.
(meaning- takedown or flurry in the last minute or 30 seconds,
see Sugar Ray Leonard vs Marvin Hagler for perfect example)

He also could play the first three rounds this way and look to tire Gane out late. If Jon secures at least 1 of the first 3 rounds and takes the championship rounds on cardio he can take the belt... and he has fought this way before.

No hard feelings. I do understand how people could come to the conclusion that Jon does not have a viable path to victory or that Jon's best won't be good enough.

I have a harder time accepting that Jon, with his past and formidable ego, doesn't have a way HE THINKS he can secure a victory.
Even if he falls short in that pursuit.

Gun to my head I favor Gane as well.
But I won't dismiss Jon's craftiness, strategy or willingness to pursue victory at all costs including cheating.

My problem is I don’t trust the UFC. But if everything is fair, then Jon is toast because Gane is the most dangerous fighter that’s bigger and stronger and more talented and more athletic than anyone Jon had faced in his prime or after. It should be a slaughterhouse if this fight is clean. By if I mean, Gane suddenly doesn’t know how to fight or get taken down right away or gets subbed right away because you saw Reyes and Gus wouldn’t let Jon get his way because of their size and length. Gane is way more talented and stronger than both.

His path to victory is obviously clinching and trying to kill Ganes rhythm with his takedowns. A guy who knows he can't afford to be taken down sure as hell won't be opening up.

Fear of takedown is the only way the standup isn't a blowout imo.

Jon needs either an early takedown or early effective clinch control with enough damage to make gane worry or enough wall control to win a round to impart sufficient hesitancy.

Not an easy task without some sort of cheat code. Possible catching a kick or timing something they caught on film study.

If I were coaching Jones, the strategy would be to get Gane on the ground and GNP till TKO.....Jones can just watch GSP film and see how he set up the takedowns that enabled him to be the boringest fighter in history to be considered a GOAT. Three punch combinations followed by a takedown and due to superior ground game, Jones wins easy by GNP....But will Bones do this? It remains to be seen.
"Get him to the ground" and GNP is quite a bit easier said than done in 2023 at the championship level by a 35 year old with high milage.

I agree, if Jon can get there, he should have a sizable and likely lethal advantage, but getting there will be no picnic,.unless he can catch a kick or time something.

Gane has good balance and quick feet.

Article linked below is a really good in depth analysis of Jones' wrestling up to the Santos fight including gifs and analysis of how his tactics changed over the years.
