Who knows? Lets say Jones is dragging this out and playing with everyone, he would've earned more as a reigning champ than challenging Tom for a belt. I think the money was there for this fight to be equal or greater to whatever his fight with Ngannou was going to be.

If Tom shows he gasses with Gane or Almeida and then shows he can be controlled on the ground pretty easy, I think Jones might return to shut people up. But he doesn't want to risk being the guy to test Tom's game like that. I think prime Jones wouldn't have an issue, he must know he has injuries or isn't performing like he wants at HW.

Sadly if this turns out to be the case, the Jones/Aspinall fight would be pretty mid, it's not as exciting if someone already exposed Aspinall in those ways (if he has bad cardio or TDD). I genuinely believe Jones has turned down the fight for now.

He's not "just another fight". Maybe he WAS to a degree, but not anymore. Jones helped make sure of that.

Which is why the other day First Take on ESPN (maybe you've heard of that fledgling sports network) had Stephen A Smith (only the highest paid and most recognizable sports commentator in the world, currently) and the rest of the personalities talking SPECIFICALLY about Jones ducking Aspinall. Showing highlights of Aspinall knocking people out, subbing Volkov, etc.

Jones literally created his own boogeyman by how he handled it. Had he just retired right away after Stipe, by the time Aspinall had beaten a few more guys nobody would've been thinking about Jones or had him linked in their minds with Tom. But now, because Jones held on hoping to get an easier fight with Pereira, he allowed the ducking narrative to get real traction. To where it's objectively difficult to say he DIDN'T duck Aspinall.

Or, the evidence sounded a lot more impressive when civilian sherdoggers read it on news websites than it actually was to the police and judges where it occurred.

Given the police and their tendency to overcharge and let the court whittle it down, I'm guessing the latter.

If they had the evidence they'd have charged him rather than spend so much effort fishing for a confession and tainting the jury pool by trying to embarrass him. It's not like he's lacking a history, that he'd be politically difficult to prosecute, or that the police like him and are protecting him.

Of note, Albuquerque does not use any traffic light cameras and makes limited use of speeding enforcement cameras.
