Jon Jones was only paid $1,237,880 as a 6 time defending champion

Most convicted felons cannot get a job at a fast food restaurant chain and you have a problem with Jones getting paid 1.2 million for 15 minutes of work. Haha

Yeah, purse is just part of his salary. Never once heard Jones complain about pay. Making millions a doesn't seem too bad to me
You’ve never heard Jones complain about pay? That he held out for years to get "Deontay Wilder money"? That he hired former Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer as an advisor to help him negotiate better pay? He literally spent years complaining about his pay.

Here is a clip of him doing nothing but complaining about his and all fighter pay::

Is there a human being that hasn't complained about how much they get paid?
These are pugilists. I don't see many people griping about the pay of pediatric surgeons.

Do pediatric surgeons work for a monopsony that controls how much all pediatric surgeons get paid? Does said monopsony exploit all pediatric surgeons and take all of the money they earn fro their job and give them a tiny fraction of what they earn? Do pediatric surgeons have to live in the office because they can't afford a home? No? Maybe that's why you don't see people griping about pediatric surgeons' pay.

They are pugilists fighting for entertainment, mate. People sit on this forum complaining that another man "made only $1.5 million (that we know of) in 2014" ten fucking years ago. There's just more interesting things to talk about than rehashing this fucking thread every time it drops off the front page.
You think Jon is hurting for money? You're mad about MMA? Wait till you hear about the realities of boxing, not just the top 10 guys. Wait until you hear about the record industry, or the film industry, or the publishing industry. You're going to be really mad when you hear about gigantic corporations like Amazon not paying a cent in earning tax and fighting unions at every turn, you'll be really mad about a corporate controlled government passing laws that directly go against what's best for their people.
Guess what, world is shit. No one is ever forced to fight, many want to, and some make serious money from it. Many don't. You could say that about almost every career a person can have. The business world at large is a big fucking casino mate, the house always wins and we're just the players. The engineer that designs the next Iphone is making maybe $300k a year, while the guys that own the company sit around and make billions, and the kid in the sweatshop earns a fistful of rice.
When it comes to pediatric surgeons, the average salary is between $170k-350k per year. If Jon Jones made as much money as 5 people who spent all year operating on children, I think he should be happy about it, don't you? That's probably a societal question at this point, unless the argument is that your favorite pugilist deserves more money than 5+ childrens surgeons combined. You don't think the medical system is a monopsony? In most places with socialized healthcare, that's exactly what it is. In the US, the healthcare system is owned by 5 companies that function as a cartel in everything but name, presenting faux competition when we all know they're owned by a small group of the same damn people. Too bad there isn't a forum with a bunch of nuthuggers talk about how their favorite surgeon isn't making enough money.
In my opinion, this obsession with fighters pay comes from a good place, but if you're going to sit and pop a blood vessel because your favorite fighter made less money than you think he deserved a decade ago, I would imagine you probably have some more pressing matters to attend to in your life.
You are living vicariously through another man, this is not healthy.

You're missing the point in the fighter pay discussion. It's not about living vicariously living through someone else. It's about fairness and not contributing to exploitation. I'm a fan of the sport. I'd like to know my entertainment isn't coming from someone exploiting others. I don't care what Jones makes. He's just an example of what a top fighter makes. If a top fighters makes that little, it's no wonder that many fighters can’t even afford to pay their bills. Jones talks about it himself. He has teammates that live in the gym because they can't afford a place to live. Meanwhile the UFC had a 2022 EBITDA of $648.2 million and paid their owners 100's of millions. That's just exploitation.

Nobody is exploiting paediatric surgeons. They get paid what the market will bear. Engineers also get paid what the market will bear. There are plenty of employers looking for their services. Companies have to pay a competitive wage to get the best talent. That's the way capitalism works. The UFC is a monopsony and is artificially suppressing fighter pay with their restrictive contracts and other monopolistic tactics, while enriching themselves. That's not just unethical, it's illegal. That's why there is a lawsuit. The lawsuit is the reason why we know what fighters get paid and all the dirty tactics that the UFC uses to suppress fighter pay.
