Jon Jones WANTS to be stripped of the HW title

1. I hate Jones. Always have.
2. You're actually pretty stupid if you think that a fight purse is the majority stake of where fighters get their income. The slow trickle of sponsorship deals that Jones is holding on to (which is undeclared) is most easily waaaayyyyy more than he'd get for the 1-2 Mill he'd get for a fight, especially since he has A-level connects. Sponsorship deals, and the opportunity to, say, go fight on a Russian TV show, for millions, far outweighs any money he'd generate by fighting, ESPECIALLY, if he loses.
...And no. The UFC will never pay him anywhere near the 30-40 Mill he's asking to fight. So that point is moot.
3. That's *
1-2m? Jones said he was getting $5m a fight for Anthony Smith and Santos.

He probably got $8m for his HW fights and I reckon they'd give him $10m for Tom.

What has he been making money off the past years?
Legit asking - haven't seen him in anything.
I just remember Nike etc cut ties with him after the past doping scandals.

Right?

Maybe he could do some personal injury lawyer commercials, or maybe be the brand ambassador for a cocaine cartel, cut some ads for an Albuequerque stripclub (well if hes not kicked out of them all already).

I was thinking about him losing his Nike deal, and got me wondering how many other UFC fighters had a Nike deal. I can't think of any.

Such exciting news!

I just read about this in Who Gives A Fuck magazine.

Really gripping stuff.

Was this before or after Nike dropped Jones? I wonder if Nike was like, "we don't need to be associated with these UFC fighters" after Jon made their brand look bad?

It was before and Silva also had a deal.

The big issue was once UFC signed with Reebok that killed the Nike deals and that was a few months after the brawl so Jones was always going to lose that deal.

Makes you wonder if there "could" have been a Nike deal instead of Reebok.

Just my opinion.

Jones being stripped of the title is the perfect scenario for him.

He rides this out as long as possible. As long as he is the HW champion, he has an exorbitant amount of opportunities, credit, sponsorship deals, etc. (regardless of whether he's worthy of it or not)

The UFC eventually strips Jones (in a month, a year, 5 years, whatever), and then Jon Jones gets to say "I always planned on fighting Tom but we couldn't reach a deal and the UFC took away that choice." He doesn't have to accept any responsibility, even though everyone knows its total bullshit.

Jones is doing what is best for his financial (and opportunistic) bottom dollar.

I hate it, but hey, kudos.
If he is stripped he could fight Alex Pereira and Aspinall could fight Gane at Madison Square Garden in November.

Are you even a sentient being?

Why do Jon Jones fanboys think that it's financially better to not fight than it is to fight?

Only Jon Jones fans think that not having an extra 30 million dollars is better financially than having so.

If Jon Jones played monopoly and owned only Baltic and Mediterranean, his fans would say he’s the best real estate investor because Jones bought the cheapest properties in the game.

I don’t think he wants to be stripped.

I think he’s just a really, big (currently embarrassing) duck.

If he doesn’t fight Tom this year, his legacy takes a huge hit in my opinion. You can’t be the GOAT and hide from a no brainer fight when there’s 0 other options. He’s ducking and weirdly swimming with men in Thailand.

Dude has completely wasted his prime money making years by hardly fighting in the last decade and his fans are like "OMG, what keen business sense! He's a genius!"

For a guy with his MMA accomplishments, it's actually pretty hilarious how much of a name Jon Jones isn't. Undefeated for 15 years and dude still can't even outdraw Jorge Masvidal. In fact, Masvidal vs Usman almost doubled Jon Jones highest selling PPV.

You are probably right!
He enjoyes the good life while still being a name sitting on good $ well invested.
The UFC will just not pay him to leave that winning life, taking risks for pretty much nothing in the long run.
