Jon Jones vs Reyes — biggest misconception

Example #1 hehe

@mkess101
No. I didn't say I watched it nor who should of won. I say it's obvious what 90% scored it. So all but Jon fans. I watched Gus 1 and didn't know who should won it, toss up. If I rewatch it I could score it clearly. The Thiago fight I definitely scored for Jon, Thiagos legs were so damaged he has no career after that fight, and a elbow knock down. Clear win on damage for me. But if everyone scores that for Reyes seems to be true. However a lot of people called Hendo Shogun 1 a draw and I was suprised and scored it clearly for Hendo. Def had Hendricks beat GSP. Clearly scored Shogun Machida for Shogun. I do wanna watch Reyes Jon but I always asume Reyes did win. Saw the hightlights and just from all the public scores and fans scoring it for Dom.
In the end you are a die hard Jon fan ? So it's obvious why you argue Jon won. Also no crediblity in the way you dismiss it as not being a close fight and Jon clearly winning. I was a big Mirko fan and really am fine with Hunt getting the Split decision. Fairness is #1 in life.

Thing is Reyes is a nobody compared to Jon so it made sense to me that they fudge a decision for their goat like they did for GSP.

Or maybe I'm not a die hard Jones fan... I'm just as objective as I can be and many here are JJ's haters to the point they get sick and hugely frustrated if JJ wins ... It's not 90% here either, by the comments and likes, many agreed with my take and others here endorsed it. Watch the fight though. But mute it since the comments / narration induce some level of scoring many times. Watch it muted, it's available fully on YouTube.

I saw you're legit, sorry for calling out for no reason tho your comment was trolling firstly which gave me the wrong vibe. I am legit interested in seeing your opinion. That's what I like.

I didn't say it was not a close fight. I said it was close but not controversial. Close # controversial. Controversial means the judges screwed up. They didn't. That's what I think 100%. But I'd be interested in seeing your opinion watching the fight fully with no audio.

Nah, it's controversial to media who wants a new champion and wanted to desperate find someone to beat JJ because JJ wasn't a role model. If the champion doesn't sell PPV because he doesn't care about selling fights like silly trash talkers like McGregor, is so dominant that ppl expect he will win and has done bad actions outside of the octagon, the media will rally on that to find someone to beat JJ. Media doesn't override what the judges said. And the point is to discuss the fight, not media opinions. Point at the actual fight what contradicts the OP. You can't apparently. So, as I said, the point stands... JJ won and there was 0 controversy.

What's funny is that you're accusing the ENTIRE MEDIA of having a bias against Jon for some fucking idiotic reason that you're pulling out of your head when you are the clearly obsessed fangirl. You're completely obsessed with Jon Jones, write love letters each and every day about him on Sherdog, and then defend his honor to the death to each and every response. If Jon Jones walked into the room, you'd be all over his dick faster than a Republican at a Trump rally.

Also, the theory that everyone wanted Jones, a PPV draw, to lose to a complete nobody like Reyes.... is literally retarded. You're seriously dumber than shit and everbody around you is dumber for just having met you. You might actually be the dumbest fucking retard on Sherdog. You are not 6'5 260lbs of pure muscle with a 23 inch dong (around) and a 180 IQ like us real Sherdoggers at all. Now go put on your American Eagles and practice your downward dog poses for in case you ever get to meet your hero.

Media opinions and fans are restrsoective opinions, often based on volume and public-facing-visuals, not the performance aligned with the rules. In contrast if you look at The Verdict, which uses the average behavior between judges and media/fans rounds, it put JJ 47.65 vs Reyes 47.38 — a close edge but STILL in JJ's favour.

See the problem with talking to you Luffy is.... that you're fucking retarded. What the fuck is restrsoective?

The most obvious scoring of all time.

Reyes won 1, 2 and 3.

No fucking debate.

If you think otherwise you don't know how to score fights, perioid.

It's on youtube on the UFC channel ? Cool I'll watch it later

Thinking about it some more, I think that one thing beyond simple Jones hatred going on with those who say that in this fight rounds one to three were easy to score for Reyes is a misunderstanding of movement. Jones was constantly moving backwards and Reyes forwards, which makes Reyes look like the aggressor and colors some people's view of the striking even though it's not actually a component of effective striking. What was really going on is that Jones was constantly creating space and ensuring that:
  1. when Reyes landed punches they were at the end of his range and Jones was moving away from the punches, meaning they landed with minimal effect,
  2. when Jones landed punches they were closer to the sweet spot of his range and with Jones momentarily set and Reyes coming forward they landed with a lot more power than Reyes's punches did, and
  3. Reyes gassed out chasing Jones and whiffing a lot on a high volume of punches in the first two rounds while Jones was comfortably driving the action, especially the movement.
The only strikes Reyes landed in the first three rounds that were in the best part of his range were a handful of roundhouse kicks to the body, which were his most effective strikes by far, and the uppercut, which was poorly placed on the edge of the jaw and mostly rolled up the side of Jones's face, meaning it probably did more damage to Reyes's fingers than to Jones so long as Jones bit down on his guard.

Fighters with a large reach advantage (e.g., seven inches) who want to strike at distance are always smart to lead the action by moving backwards; that's the only way they can take full advantage of their reach unless there opponent doesn't even try to close range! That's a very different situation than when a fighter with comparable or shorter reach backpedals out of their own striking range to run away from an opponent who's aggressively hitting them hard in the face.

Plot Twist Fluffy is Jon Jones irl

I bet some fighters post undercover in threads about them

I agree that Reyes should have got the nod against Jones but I don’t really think fan scoring can always be used as a reliable metric. We all know a lot of times fans score with their emotions, for example 32% of the fan scores for Colby vs Usman 2 have Colby winning which I just think is ridiculous. I’ve always just chalked that up as Colby fans submitting scorecards so they have something to point to as evidence of a robbery.

Again I don’t think my theory applies in the case of Jones vs Reyes, 70% of fans is significantly more than 30%, but I thought I’d throw that thought out there.

People just want to see Jon lose. I didn’t think it was that controversial, but Reyes did really well. Jon looked human, but I think it was just because he was getting bored of kicking the shit out of everybody and lost some motivation later in his career.

He was never hurt and the only significant thing that happened for Reyes was knocking him off balance with a punch to the chest.

Reyes "win" over Volkan was much more "controversial" than this loss.

Jon Jones won all 5 rounds easily. Maybe you can make the argument that Reyes edged 1 of the rounds, maybe. But that's it.

Watching rd3 only and without sound (which is flawed because the impact sound can help to know what landed. Sound but no commentary would be better).

The biggest Reyes strikes are:
2:29 Reyes lands uppercut, 2:02 lands elbow, 1:21 body kick, 1:13 lands left hand (that Jones moves away from, but was hit by), 1:00 left hand, 0:44 uppercut to the body, 0:10 or later Reyes landed one right hand, couple leg kicks landed by Reyes in that round

Jones good counter jab 0:27
Jones had a couple other good connections. Don't have time to check which time he landed good to the body or head, but it was just a few. And a few early leg kicks, but can't say they landed better than Reyes'.

Funny someone was arguing it looked like Reyes won cuz Jon was moving backwards. Literally the opposite in round 3 (which is how i remember the fight being when i watched it tje first time and when watching highlights more recently) - Jon is moving forwards, Reyes backwards, but Reyes is landing the better shots. It was one where the judges may have factored octagon control in too much, giving it to Jon.

Also we're out here trying to rewrite the meaning of the word "controversial" for the benefit of Jon Jones? Is this like when someone makes an extreme claim so that their other claims seem more reasonable? "Controversial" can be looked up on Wikipedia or multiple dictionaries (merriam webster, collins, cambridge).

I'm not sure why people still care so much about this decision, it was years ago, a very close fight, someone ends up winning, the end.
What makes it weirder is that this is a thread being made by a fan of the guy who supposedly won. Aren't fans of the loser supposed to write a thesis about how their guy actually won instead? Why do you have to try so hard to convince everyone that the guy who won, won. Unless you don't think he really won.

So I watched it and my score is 48-46 Reyes.
1 Reyes
2 Reyes
3 Reyes by 2 points for Jon throwing a deliberate big knee to the tigh after he hears the buzzer and Reyes stops fighting. Psychopathic. Cheating to get away with it. Smart breaking the rules.
4 Jon
5 Jon

I could only score this for Jon if I give him round 1. The knockedown was off balance and the punch flurry probably didn't land.

Overal Jon was actually stronger but it's round point based and I give Reyes 1-3. Dom moved too much and got tired. Jon just stalked. If there were 10 rounds I think Jon wins. But even rounds 4 & 5 Dom landed hard shots. Dom just was tired.

Dom is my score. Jon didn't sound convinced at his victory speech.

Visually Reyes was tired but he landed more.

Classic scenario. Dominant champ has close, competitive fight that he was supposed to cruise through, and the challenger’s performance is now gassed up bc they did way better than anyone thought they would.

Dom played himself by letting that final round get away from him.
