Jon Jones explains himself

Like him or not he isn't wrong in the way he is thinking.

Stipe is all the UFC can offer him in name value at this time and probably it for the next year or so.

Lost count of how many times I went, bruh, Nngannou outwrestled this fool. What do you think the best MMA wrestler in Jon Jones will do <45>

Ngannou is a different animal. He is extremely strong and we mean extremely. He was able to stuff Stipes wrestling in the second fight and throw Stipe around based on pure brute strength.

When it comes to strength vs technique, usually, as one is increasing, the other is plateaued, but the gains from one will help you break through your plateau in the other. A person with a lot of strength can make gains without actually being as good technically.

You cannot take Ngannou talking someone down as something normal for everyone IMO. Gane has grappling subs on his record and is not terrible on the ground. But Ngannou was able to not only do that to Gane but also to Stipe. He was able to make Stipes wrestling look pretty bad. Ngannou has improved his grappling by leaps but he is a different animal because of his strength.

It's very telling in this thread of people who have played in sports, found success in those sports, or just understands the sporting world much better than average joe mma fan.

In an individual sport like MMA the athletes are very high on themselves and in most cases rightfully so, they earned it to call the shots. It's all about what you have accomplished vs the reward of granting you the opportunity. It isn't anything to do with being scared or thinking you'll lose. It's what has your opponent done to deserve a shot against you and do you believe that they have done enough to share the spot light with you. It is all mental mentality of the athlete. It's obvious that Jones holds Stipe in a certain light as do most fans. Jones knows he could easily lose to Stipe, anything can happen in a fight. I'm not sure he takes the fight if he just thinks he'd steam roll Stipe.

It's very obvious that Jones just doesn't think Tom is worthy of sharing the cage with him at this time. Maybe Tom can get under his skin enough to change his mind and want to teach this young buck a lesson. Until Jones thinks Tom is worth his time the fight will never happen. Maybe the UFC after Jones beats Stipe offers Jones a nice bonus to fight(money never hurts in these situations) Tom and by then maybe Tom has another win under his belt and has pissed of Jones enough for him to consider it. That is probably best case scenario.

P.S.: The UFC may not want this fight. If they know Jones is done after Stipe then why would they want to risk him taking out Tom who they could just crown HW champ after Jones retires and move on instead of risking a massive mess at HW.

He's right. Aspinal does absolutely nothing for him, it's all risk no reward. He's already considered the GOAT.

Aspinal keeps talking about wanting to test himself against the GOAT, but what he really wants is to beat up old Jon coming off a torn pec and one fight at heavyweight, and act like he's now the GOAT himself.

Jon vs Stipe makes far more sense. Both older guys and legends at the end of their careers having a last fight.

I think he'd consider coming back for Francis -- that's the lineal HW champ, it's the only thing he wouldn't have.
Dude if at this point you STILL think there is any universe where Jon agrees to fight Francis...man I don't know how to help you

But Gane is pretty much the same tier as Tom and it didn't do anything for Jon's resume....
Yes it did, not sure what narrative is telling you it didn’t.

Don’t respond to me if you’re going to post foolishness. Would O’Malley beating tj do more for him than beating merab? Thats the kind of comment you’re making

It gave him the HW belt and now he a two weight class champ, that is he did it.

Honestly, I'm not sure a fight vs Tom would be a whole lot different.
