"Powerlifting’s a problem. He gasses. I only want to do an I-told-you-so dance right now," Jackson said.

"He looked a lot bigger, but he also looked a lot slower. He looked like he tired a little faster," Cormier said, on the other hand.

Upon his reinstatement into the UFC in late 2015, Jones focused more on strength building, and began deadlifting as much as 585 pounds. But apparently, he himself admitted that it may have played a factor in his lackluster performance against OSP.

In a recent media event in Los Angeles ahead of UFC 200, "Bones" revealed that he has done "almost zero" weightlifting for this current training camp.

"In my last fight, it definitely played a factor in me being conservative and conserving the way I used my energy. I felt like I was in good shape, my lungs were strong, but I felt like my muscle endurance maybe wasn't in the right place," Jones said (transcription by MMA Fighting).

...

"I've actually been focusing in burning off muscle by doing overloading on endurance. I think you'll be able to tell in the weigh-ins and during the fight that I'll look a lot more like the way I used to look, a lot less bulky. My endurance feels amazing."

The sport killer is full of shit! That fight was no indication for anything! He just doesn't want his cashcow training in other gyms away from his waterfall...

He put on a good 10lbs of lean mass. No way all of that just comes off again especially in that amount of time. He definitely retained some of it so he still wont be back to the way he was before he started putting it on.

Good. I said it months ago. The extra muscle mass would create cardiovascular issue.

Happy to hear this.

At least he acknowledged the issue and did something to correct it. That's why Jones' a smart fighter. Too bad he doesn't apply his intelligence outside the cage.

No Powerlifting Jones ready to break some records. Can't wait.

Honestly I can see Bones or Bulky Jones beating DC. I think people have the illusion that DC has gotten better since Jones' absence but he just proved he's the second best guy. OSP is a tough fight for many but Jones coasted which isn't easy to do against him. If Jones kept the muscle I would think he would keep him at distance much like OSP and pick DC apart where leaner Jones can take more chances and let DC get in range more but throw a lot more volume.

I I don't expect DC to win but what I would like to see is Jones finish DC is exciting fashion to show his improvements. Anything less then a finish doesn't do much for Jones IMO and with a finish of DC he can go to HW or face Johnson then move up. I'm sure people wanna see him fight Gus again but at this point Gus has to work his way up again IMO and I'm not all that interested in the rematch anymore since Gus isn't the clear cut #2 guy like he was at the time.

So...exactly what a lot of people here suggested when they saw the "new, improved" bulky Jones

yeah i just drop a bunch of mucsle in a couple months if i feel like it also

wtf

i wonder if the ufc told jones he would headline 200 if he beat osp without getting injured and if he played it safe partially because of that

This thread is for all the people that put so much weight into aesthetics.

Pun intended.

I know I'm in a minority but there is absolutely no correlation to big muscles and winning at MMA. Strength actually does not win fights. We learned from day one, with Royce (pronounced Royce) Gracie beating down some chiseled dudes. Technique, speed, cardio wins fights. Sure strength can help but whatever.
