News Jon Fitch retires,

Very good career. But he’s another fighter that I worry about in terms of what’s he going to be doing for the foreseeable future? Did he earn enough money to actually retire and live on? Or is he gonna be working some shit blue-collar job for the next 20 years to pay bills?
Well, he's had about 20 years to plan an exit strategy, so the onus is really on him. That said, there must be opportunities in coaching, starting a gym, etc for a guy like that. Besides which, he did graduate from Purdue, and has name recognition in a niche industry. He should find work if he wants it.

Besides which, if he has to work a blue collar job, like millions already do, I don't see a problem. He would be living a normal life.

Lol at folks posting in a retirement thread just to hate. You guys must lead fulfilling lives.

Another poster who replied to me already addressed this pretty well. Fitch was never the second best WW in the world.

He was the clear #2 of his generation. MMA Weekly & Sherdog consistently had him #2 in their rankings over this period.

UFC stopped giving him top opponents because they needed guys to fight GSP and chances are they wouldn't get past Fitch. Stylistically, he was also kryptonite for co main/ main events too. He also wouldn't fight any of the AKA teammates.

Would have been champ if not of the GOAT himself.
But he would have then lost his belt because he was a cheater.

I’ve been a fan of the guy for a long time. He was a gritty fighter.

Wish him well in retirement.

His biggest win was prob Diego and the Alves rematch.

I did think Alves has improved more than Jon by the time they rematched, but Jon did what he does to most in that fight.

You’re right. Nothing stands out too much.

I think one of his best fights from an entertainment value aspect was also one of the best contextually. His beating Erick Silva in a fotn matchup when it seemed to me that ufc was expecting him to lose was a strong highlight in the career.

All it took was one subsequent loss- Maia- for UFC to find their justification for cutting him but that Silva fight was great.

Hespect. He was a top fighter in his division and had a great career.

All the best for Fitch!

was never a fan, but the guy got results. respect, enjoy your retirement.

great fighter that I have been watching forever.

Hope he has a nice retirement and saved his money

Fitch made over 3.5 million dollars in his MMA career if you add up all of his purses.

If he was smart he will be fine in retirement.

Yeah it was but even then Dana didn't give him credit, basically said it was good because of Silva and despite Fitch.

Hendricks retired him it just took him this long to realize it

If anyone here was a fan fifteen years ago, Fitch was “a contender” and Sherdog wasn’t a fan of his style then but he was a somebody.

as a long time fan it sucks to see these guys retire guys i grew up watching from the start of their UFC careers you know?

I am born the same place as Jon fitch even meet his family several times and I got to say he had a great career and I wish him the best in his life and I hope he enjoys it with his two kids

Lmao, all that shit talk about UFC and PEDs ... goes out like a chump. Good job 6' 200 pound welterweight that still couldn't get it done without putting everyone to sleep. Good riddance.
